Lewis, who has been seriously ill with an affliction of the stomach, was operated upon yesterday by Dre, Shoe maker, Bryantand Ecker, They found a perforation fn bie stomach about’the size of a bullet hole through which the contents of his stomach were escaping into the abdominal cavity. They -re moved the foreign material and sewed up his stomach, and the patient stood the operation well. James Britt, proprietor of the Ar cade saloon of this place, and Miss Mary McDonald were married in San Francisco on the 14th of this: month, They bave arrived here and: taken up their residence on Race street. ‘All the cars of the Armour car lines, which includes the Continental Fruit Express, The Fruit Express and The Kansas Oity Fruit Express, are now being. iced here. This arrangement will continue, as the facilities for handling them here have been perfected, and it is a convenience to the railroad company to bave the work done here. There are at present twen. ty men employed in icing the trains tbat pass through, The average is abont eighty care daily, aud-one dey The ice used comes from the Donner ice plant and the Tahoe plant at PolJaris. There will be no tsiag done at Boca and the ice stored there will be shipped out. W. T. Simpson, who hag charge of the icing, has had a new boarding house erected down on River street, jast across the track from the ice platforms, for the accommodation of the men employed in icing cars. August Larsen died yesterday in a cabin on River street. He had been drinking heavily and contracted a severe cold which developed into pneumonia and caused his death after a brief illness, He has no known relatives in thie country. TRUK FO An Bight-Inch Ledge Uncovered In the Oustomah Mine, For some time past the Oustomah mining company have had a force of men engaged in ranning a cross-cut fn the 700-foot drift, and last night their efforts were rewarded when the. work: men uncevered an eight inch ledge of fine-looking ore. It is estimated that the rock will yield. over $100 per ton, Some of the rock was placed on exhibition at the Citizens Bank. today and attracted considerable attention, ae it is of the same ‘characier as that which was extracted from the Pennsylvania mine years ago, when it gave such handsome returns. It -is.ex pected that the new 10 stamp mill. wilt be running in about a week: iSince mine, the work bas been carried on faithfully and energetically under. the direction of Superintendent Frank 8. The young woman has been a partial invalid for many years, but was taken seriously ill last Monday and since then has suffered a series of very severe apoplectic spells.
