BE COMMENCED.
John Martin, President of the Electric Railway Company, was in this city today, and informed the TRANSCRIPT
reporter that work on the new electric railroad would commence immediately. The survey between Grass Valley and
Nevada City has been completed; and Mr. Martin is now
making arrangements to get a right of way from the Trustees of Nevada City and Grass Valley, to run on the princi—
pal streets, and will inform the Trustees as to the streets
he on which wishes the railroad to enter the cities.

She Receives $250—What Wilk
be Done With the Rest?
The committee who had in charge
the Maid of Honor contest at this city
met last night and decided to allow
Miss Hampton $250 with which to get
herself ready.
The money left from the contest,
which netted over $700, is in charge of
P. 0. BOX B
* the Board of Trade and what is to be
done with it is causing much discussion. The opinion of most :people is
that the money should go toward celebrating the 4th of July, the same as is
to be done at Grass Valley. If this
plan wculd materialize it would be a
great help as a much better celebration
{ban usual could be had with less
trouble in collecting funds.
As yet it does not seem to be known
, whether or not Nevada City is going to
celebrate but no time should be lost
in calling a meeting to consider the
matter. Most other towns have already made preparations for a celebration and Nevada City. should not wait
until so late that things will have to be
rushed. Some of our enterprising
citizens should wake up and call a
meeting of our cit zens.
