Offers Over Interior Cities.
_ Nevada City’s hotels are far ‘above
the average of those.in the interior of
California, and the visitor who mukes
his first trip here’ is somewhat surprised to find such excellent accommodations. Especially is this the case
at the New Union Hotel, which has
undergone such a radical change in the
this popular hostelry since it was rebuilt would’ hardly know thé place.
Well lighted and comfortable reading
rooms have been provided, while the
sample rooms for traveling men are
large and properly arranged. The
dining room is comm odious, well ventilated and brilliantly lighted, The
parlor is a favorite place for the lady
guests of the hotel, as well as for
others. Every room in the house is
Frovided with electric lights and elec-}
tric calland return bells. Accommodating employes attend to the every
want of the guest atany time of the

Should Be Re-elected.The time for holding the city election
is drawing near, aud all candidates
must have their petitions filed with the
City Clerk on or before the 16th of this
month, It seemsto.be the universal
opinion that the present Trustees, B.S.
Rector and J, J. Jackson, whose terms
expire next month should be re-elected.
While tbey do not care about being reelected, still for the good of the city it
is urged that they should continue in
office for at least another term. Two
better men than B. 8. Rector and J. J.
Jackson could not be selected, as they
are thorough business men, and whether as Trustess or not, they have always
taken a keen interest in the prosperity
of the city. 1t is also urged as another
reason why Rector and Jackson should
be retained in office is the fact that
they fally understand the business of
the city, and everything running along
like clock-work should continue so at
least until the sewer and other matters
are properly adjusted.
Since the above was in type we
learn that J. J. Jackson positively refuses to be a candidate for City Trustee. The people will regret this, for
a more competent, able and conscientious man never acted in that capacity
than J. J. Jackson. :
Chas. E. Mulloy, B. F Snell, A: R.
Morrison and J. H. Rogers are now
spoken of as candidates for City Trustee in place of J. J. Jackson.

heads of Europe. There is only one.
La Loie Fuller. She stands alone as
dances now before the public and while
she has imitators, there has-been no
one who has yet succeeded in attaining
her artistic standard. : ioe
La Loie Fuller is a greater “marvel
this season than ever before. When it
was believed that the zenith in spectacular dances had been reached, this
remarkable woman forthwith originated two new evolution before which
all other dances pale into insignificense.
The “Tempest” and the “Arch Angel”
are the titles that have been given
these new creations. In the latter
dance La Loie wears a dress made of
10,000 yards of silk, which is undoubtedly one of the most expensive costumes ever seen on the stage. This
dress cost over $5000 in Europe and the
duty on it when the dancer came to
$500. In addition to these new dances,
La Loie will produce all of ber other
famous creations, iucluding the wonderful “fire dance” which has attracted
such worldwide interest. :
Miss Fuller is surrounded .by her
own company of twenty-two people who
will be seen in the charming comedy
“An Accidental Sweetheart.” Prom—
inent among the company is the famous actress, Ada Lewis, Ida Banning
and Charles Arthur, three artists who
have become well known as members
of Frohman’s New York Lyceum Theatre Company. Harry Braham, the
celebrated monologist, and Lizzie
Trinder, ia illustrated songs wil) also

Cuicago, April 5—A_ speciai.to the
Resord-Herald from Newkirk, Oklahoma, says: Mrs. Ella Zoiglin and Mrs.
Doughson, living near Chicago, fought
a duel with revolvers yesterday, and
Mrs. Zeiglin is now in a hospital dangerously but not necessarily fatally
wounded. Two of her cpponent’s shots
lodged in her breast, tut she is able to
talk volubly, and is anxious to recover,
that she may again fight Mrs. Dougbson. The duel grew out of a long
standing feud between the women,
jealousy being the original cause.
