This was about the condition of affairs at the Osborn Hill mine, Sunday evoning, according to newspaper riports from that quarter. A teamster was sapped bya miner, Teamster rushed to his home, thrust a revolver into his pistol pocket, shouldered a double~barreled shotgun, filled his eyes with fire, and his gullet with whiskey, we suppose, and sallied forth to everlastingly perforate his’ assailant. But when he got there the villain -had fled and the teamster concluded to yo to bed. It was a very happy ending of what but'a short time before threatened to be a tragedy most terrible. For the “Injun.”? William Giffin has had a concrete pedestal erected in front of his. cigar. shop upon which his advertising Indiin will stand in the future. —~-——_—+ 20-2 Cure for Headache, Asaremedy for all forms of Headache Electric Bitters hasproved to be. the very best. _ It effects a perrhanent cure and. the most dreaded habitual sick headaches yield to its influence. By the Supreme Court of the of Connecticut. State ' The Supreme Court of Connecticut, by a unanimous decree, has eéatablished an’ extraordinary precedent in murder cases. It is nothing more nor less thah the setting aside of the old, common law precept ot “once in jeopardy operates as a bar against being placed in jeopardy again for the same offense.” The case at bar was an appeal to the Supreme Court against a verdict of The common law objection was offered to the appeal. But the court overruled it and ordered a retrial. The main argument in the decision is tbe point that ‘‘the old. English common law was.so cruel that judges ter a jury acquittal, could fot be put in jeopardy a second time for the same offense; but, now that the old law has been relaxed, a criminal ought not to benefit by the former practice and justice be thwarted of judicial ruling.” 1f this precedent could have been established in this State’ in years past, many an offender who has gone unwhipped of justice would have had his deserts meted out to him. eee —Ladies Trinity Social. long since The ladies of Trinity Episcopal Church will give a social at Union Hotel, on Wednesday evening Dec 19. In the evening there will be a literary and musicai eotertainment together with refreshments, etc. da the will be offered for sale at cost. He has‘on hand a big stoch and is constantly adding thereto. Nothing nicer, for a gentleman friend than a box of Giffin’s cigars. SPSS SN Van Eman Septenced: W. B. Van Eman’s many friends in this part of the State will regret to learn that he has been sentenced to“our years’ imprison‘ment in the State Prison at Folsom. Wan Eman was convicted of embezzlement at San Francisco and sentence was passed by Judge Daingerfield. er Breakers Ahead ! Prudence, foresight, that might have saved many a good ship that has gone to pieces among the breakers, is a quality ‘conspicuous by its absence” among many classes ef invalids, and among the none more notably than persons troubled with inactivity of the kidneys and bladder. When these organs fall off in duty grievous trouble is to be apprehended. Bright’s disease, diabetes, catarrh and stone in the bladder, are among the diseases which a disregard of early symptoms confirm and render fatal. That sigually effectual diuretic, Hostetter’s Stomach Bitters, will—and let no one so troubled forget this—remedy the symptoms of approaching renal disease and check its further progress. Equally efficacios is the Bitters . for constipation, liver complaint, malarial and rheumatic trouble and debility. — + oBe er Just Received.
