4 . Break It Gently.
Eprror Transcrirr: Will you kindly
call the attention of the residents of the
* west side of Broad street, above the Methcdist Church, to the miserable condition of
their sidewalks? For years the residents
of that street have submitted to imposition
in consequence of one party neglecting to
repair their walk, That has now been
done, but there are others. in the immediate
vicinity that are almost impassable, and it
is only necessary to call their attention to
the fact to have it remedied. Our Street
Committee live-in another quarter of the
town; the Marshal does not dare to mention
it to the owners of the property for fear of
ofending them and thereby endangering his
election next year, and the parties themselves think it is the duty of the city authorities to attend to it. A simple hint
s _from you will remedy the matter and the
oe residents of that side of the street will: be
made happy by being able to go back and
forth to their meals without wading through
mud or endangering their: limbs by falling
through thé sidewalks. Break this gently
to them, but don’t say I mentioned it,

and left there with the remains early Wednesday morning. Superintendent Hennistan and his assistants did all in their power
for the -dead and for the comfort of the
living. Thirty men. came down from the
mine, many-of them never having been on
snowshoes before. The other men were to
follow in three or four days. It was late at
many of the strangers were nearly worn
out. Thursday nine men from Eureka and
twelve men from North Bloomtield took
the remains to the Derbec mine, where they
were transferred to a wagon and taken on
to North Bloomfield.
On the way down from Eureka one of the
party, a colored man, gave out at the Snow
