A Well Known Miner
Fatally Injured at
the Champion.
Themas Harris, of Gold Flat, met
with a fatal accident at the Champion
mine last eveining. At the usual time,
5 o’clock, he quit work and, with five
other miners, got into the tool car at
the 1300-foot level to ride to the 700
level. Upon reaching the’ 500 level
where some repairs were ander way it
was necessary for the men in the car
to lower their heads to pass through
an opening in a platform. Harris
failed to lower his bead in time and
was caught under the chin by a timber and his head forced back onto his
shoulders. He was also strack on the
forehead and received a deep gash.
Mr. Harris was conveyed to his
home on Gold Flat, where Dr, Muller
made a careful examination of the injuries sustained He found that a
bone in the neck was broken and there
was also a dislocation.
At 11 o’clock this forenoon death relieved the young miner’s sufferings,
after everything possible had been
done to prolong his life. Besides bis
mother, of whom he was the sole support, he leaves four sisters, Mre.
George Olemo, Mra, Louis Roetticher,
Mrs. Daniel Dower, of this city; and
Mrs. Bagley, of Seattle. i
A brother of Mr. Harris was killed
while at work at a mine in Willow
Valley.
The deceased was a member of Court
Garfield, No. 9, Forest of America,
under whose auspices the funeral. will
take place, The obsequies will probably be held next Sunday.
The deceased was a very industrious and apright young man, whose
sudden death will be greatly regretted by a large circle of friends.
