s eva da City D ai ly Transcript. VOL. LXVI=-NO. 10253 NEVADA CITY, CALIFORNIA. FRIDAY BVENING, FEBRUARY. 16, 1894, = Established Sept. 6, 1860, by N. P. Brown & Co. SERVED BY CARRIERS AT : 15 Cts. per Week or 60 Cts. per Month WHEN PAID IN ADVANCE : “SIX. DOLLARS PER. YEAR. The Miners’ Association. Recently the Nevada County Miners’ Association , levied anassessment of one dollar.on the members. Of the 500 notices of assessment sent out only 22 have been responded to. This apathy on the part.of members is doubtless dus to the dissatis— faction which prevails regarding the manner in which the Miners’ Association: is being used as @ power to advance. the political interests of certain. parties. People are willing to help the mining cause, but they object to giving financial aid to anything that is being made to subserve the politieal ends of afew men. Were it not for this feeling we believe most, if not all, of the members would send in their dollar. ' 1¢ is to be regretted that such a state iof affairs exists, as it is very essential that the organization should be kept up, and in order to do so funds are necessary. 1-9 @e--——_ The Prizes. Evrror Transcript: The weather up this way the past winter, so far, has been disagreeable in the extreme; ‘nothing like it in the weather line has occurred since Adam and Eve wore fig-leaf aprons to -hide : their nakedness from the Lord while sojourning ni the Garden of Eden, at least so say the old=timers of this:-zection.~ As astarter a cold: snap, with the speed of a cyclone, whisked up by this place, freezing everything solid. — Ditches were frozen, which caused them to become blocked with ice and siow, thereby breaking their banks and doing considerable damage ‘to other property.. Iron water pipes were bursted wherever exposed to the weather, and the South Yuba river, at the timé, was frozen over in many places, the ice being thick enough for the boys to skate on, which has not happened in many~ years before.’ Even now, while writing, I can feel a cold chill meandering its way up my spinal column at the thought of how cold it was at the time. After the cold spell had partially subsided, snow —and__rain—commenced falling in about equal proportions, present time. Just how much longer such detestable weather is-going to continue is a question that is now agitating the minds of tuose of my apes who have small wood piles. The-outlook for mining here on the river the coming summer is not particularly bright just now, although there is no telling At the Eagle Bird mine the new company are now employing fiom twenty-five to thirty men‘in prospecting the mine. Should a new pay shoot of ore be discovered in the near future it is more than probable that the present force in the mine will be more than doubled and the mill started up sgain. At the-Yuba the mine is now clear of water and sinking commenced in the shaft. It is to be sunk 200 feet deeper, and the work, so 1 am informed, is to be done by . Chinamen. Four-men-are now employed at-the Blue Jay: The-ledge-is large and much--ofthe quartz is rich in-free gold, -As [stated in my last letter, it is the finest prospect, as far av developed, “of any in this district. The German mine still remains closed and_in the hands of a watchman. Mitchell, Midwinter Fair, as the plan has now been changed -sothat the coupons are void unless voted within two weeks after publication. Bring in Your our Ppecnmens, Supt. Mitchell, whe kee charge of Nevada county's mineral exhibit at the Midwinter Fair, writes he is now ready to receive the specimen ore promised, Safes and show cases havé been provided and all those who promised semething fer the display will please leave it at the Express office. —— a THE IMPORTANCE of keeping the liver and kidneys in good condition cannot be overestimated.
