Formed in Some Counties,
An Act was passed by the last Legislature to create and administer a Public
School Teacher’s Annuity and Retirement
Fund in the several ‘cities and counties of
the State, In some counties the Treasurer,
Superintendent of Schools and Chairman:of.
the Board of Supervisore have organized
themselves into a Board of Trustees of the
“School Teacher’s Annuity and Retirement
Fund,” whose daty it is to provide for the
disbursement of the same and to designate
~ the beneficiaries thereof.

therefrom according to the provisions of the
new Act.. They must report annually, in
the month of July, to the Board of Supervisors the condition of such fund, the receipte and disbursements, and a complete :
list of the beneficiaries,
Section 3 of the Act provides that whenever @ teacher has taught in the public
wchools of this State for a period of twenty
years, and shall become incapacitated from
performing the duties of a teacher, such
teacher shall, at his or her request, and
may, in the discretion of the Board of
School Trustees,. without’ such request, be
retired asa teacher and shall thereafter receive an annuity out of said fund of $45 per
month; and if such teacher has taught for
twenty-five years or over, shall, under the
@ime circumstances, be retired upon an
annuity of $50 per month; such payments
to be made out of the fund in the different
counties in proportion to the length of time
taught by such teacher in each county.
Section 6 reads as follows: ‘To provide
sfor.the payments provided for in ‘this Act, }
tthe Secretary of the Board of Education .of
each municipality shall certify monthly to
the Treasurer, and the Board of Trustees in
every school district outside of such municipalities shall certify and pay over in like}
manner to the County ‘freasurer of each
Gounty one p-r cent of the amount due
each teacher as a ‘salary. for the. previous
month, the Treasurer to credit such money
to the fund for pensioned teachers,”
In case any teacher is retired within
three years after the passage of this Act, he
or she must, in order to receive the benefits
thereof, pay into said fund the sum of $300.
‘We presume a Board will soon be formed
in this county under the provisions of the
Act above quoted from.

About 6:30 o’clock last evening a small
blaze was discovered on the air compressor
pipe at. the new works on Massachusetts
Hill, below Boston Ravine. The whistle
blew an alarm and before any damage had
resulted the flame was extinguished. It is
