The storms since January, Ist have been so heavy and the fail of snow 80 great, that reports from the mountains all agree that there will be no shortage of water in the ensuing season. The gold production for this year will undoubtedly exceed that of last year by several“iillions. Over two hundred stalgps in Tuolumne county were started up in the last ten days, and every stamp in Angels ’ Camp is once more dropping. The discovery of the channel in the Eureka Drift Mining Company’s ground, Forest Hill divide, was noted last week. Since breaking through into the cement filling of the channel pieces of drift wood have been found, and Superintendent Chappellet has sent some of the pieces \down to the office of the company. One piece, apparently pine, embracing a knot, was quite well preserved. Others were quite soft and were quite easily broken up between one’s fingers. This drift was encountered at least four or five hundred feet under the surface and a quarter of a mile in the mountain. The finding of the drift is further evidence of the discovery of the channel the company has been working so long to find. Superintendent W. R. Phomas of the Central Eureka, informs the, Sutter Oreek record that everything is progressing finely at his mine. By last Saturday night he expected to have the water out of the nine hundred level. The shaft, and everything in fact, was found in excellent shape, so there is not likely to be any delay in driving ahead the work of development under the new regime. The Argonaut mine, located between Greenwood and Georgetown, El Dorado county, is giving up another rich pocket. For a great many years doctors pronounced it a local disease, and prescribed local remedies, and by constantly failing to cure with local treatment, pronounced it incurable.
