We I,, that the Dominion Minister of Foreign Affairs, adcompanied by a delegate has left San Domingo for Washington, to endeavor to make arrangements with the United States to establish a protectorate over the Lepublic of San Domingo, University Funds San Franoisco, January 20—Owing to the tangle into which the funde of the University of Oslifornia have been plunged through the McKowen defaloation, the expenses of an exhibit at the St. Louis Fair must be paid in scme outside way, It now looke as though the California Exposition Oommission will be asked to defray the expenses of the exhibit. President Benjamin Ide Wheeler declares that the Regents of the University do not feel warranted in expending the $5000 necessary to set up the display. Be ey oa Machinery Here. Oapt.Lambson will have. sole charge of the shipment, caring for the eggs an the way and delivering them to the * rival there. Causes Suicide. Los Anazies, Jan. 20.—George W. Groff, an insurance solicitor for the Conservative Life Insurance Qompany, committed saicide at his home in this city today, by shooting himeelf through the head with a revolver. Groff, it is said, was of a morose dis position, and is said to have brooded over the recent elopment and marriage of his young daughter.
