The Truckee Republican gives the comparative snowfall for the years 1890 and 1895. In 1890, up to Jan. 23d, the fal: was 275.25 inches. To the same date this year it has been 11.25 inches less, or 264 inches. : : ‘The Republican also remarks: Truckee presents an appearance that is at once novel aud picturesque. To the average Californian who is accustomed to seeing green fields ands blooming flowers, it is a marvel, The whole town’is enwrapped in the ewblem of purity to the depth of several féet, while icicles in their crystal splendor adorn the eaves of every house., Thesotary snow plow, asit drives up and down’ the track throwing a stream of snow a distance of a hundred feet or more; is asight that would interest the most’stoic observer. In order to cross a atréet in Truckee one must climb _ from the-Sidewalk-on ‘steps in the snow to “the street and then descend on the opposite side. “People on one side of the street “ cannot seéthose on “the other side, In many places thegnow is so deep around the eaves of the houses that it has to be shoveled away from in from of the windows in order to allow light to entemthe house Icemen are becofning discouraged and have given up the ‘battle with the elemerita, . Large numbers of men are being discharged as it seems useless to try longer to keep the ponds clear, and fhere seems to be no prospects of fair weather at present. 100 Board of Education.
