New peel at Colfax
Superintendent J. D. Laws.has given
out that the new station changes will
be made at Colfax very soon. The
changes provide for anew union
Southerna Pacific and Narrow Gauge
depot, which will be located opposite
the new Gillen Hotel and south of the
inspector oftiee and railroad park.
The freight depot will: be enlarged.
The present plans give the N. C. N. G.
one track on the east side of the passenger depot. The Narrow Gauge instead of crossing the 8. P. tracks near
the water tanks as at present will pass
under the broad gauge north of the
engine house and thus reach the
bluffs in front of the 8. P, water tank
and near the Perkins 6 At the
stock yards will be excavated to give
more track room. The Standard Oil
warehouse and stock yards will be removed to the north end of town above.
the fruit houses. An overhead crossing for teame may be built near the .8.
P. water tank._The company is in
correspondence with the Board of Sapervisors relative to.a roadway beneath the 8. P. tracks in the south
part of town. Many delays have occurred with trains at Colfax owing to
insufficient yard room_and passing
tracks. The arrangement has long
been a matter of study, but Superintendent Laws has now resolved to go
ahead with the new work which, when
completed, will give Colfax splendid
station facilities.”
Death of Aged Lady!
The Record-Union of yesterday had
the following item concerning the
death of an early resident.of Grass
Valley: ‘‘Mrs. Cordelia Buarke,.one of
the earliest residents of Sacramento,
dropped off into her last rest at an
early hour Thursday morning. Death
came as gently as sleep comes to a
tired child, and her family could hardly realize that she had gone from
them forever. Mrs. Burke crossed the
plains to California in 1858, and passed
one year in Grass Valley before removing to Sacramento. She went to
Sacramento in 1854, and has resided
there ever since.”
