Mr. A. L. Kroeber, Ph, D.,
Affiliated Colleges,
San Francisco, California,
Dear Sir:
A nationwide conference or meeting is planned, during the PanamaPacific Internationa] Exposition in San Francisco, in 1915, to consider
all phases of our Indian problems. Will you kindly advise us what subjects,
in your opinion, should be discussed at such a conference? Would it be
possible for you to be present and take part in the proceedings? Can you
give us the names and addresses of persons who should be present? It is
planned to have the largest possible attendance of the intellectual leaders
of our times, who are interested in Indian problems, the largest possible
attendance of the real workers and doers in the Indian field and the largest
possible attendance of educated Indian leaders. It is planned to emphasize
the real and creditable progress of the race, rather then the possibly more
picturesque barbaric features, which have now little real existence, and to
make clear to all people, if possible, not only what has been accomplished
in the past, but what remains to bs done in the future, Such a conference
should have a far reaching educative effect upon both races.
The auditoriums, committee rooms, etc., will bs furnished by the
management of the Panama-Pacific International Exposition. The actual date
is not yet fixed, but is expected to be about the time of the meeting of the
National Education Association and of the Indian Teachers’ Institutes. We
shall bo very much obliged for any suggestions from you in furtherance of
the proposed conference.
Very truly yours,
THE NORTHERN CALIFORNIA INDIAN ASSOCIATION.
