Lives of : Passengers?. -f£ruckee Republican. } Why de not the people who must ride upon stages demand that they shall be carried apart from Wells, Fargo & Co.’s money boxes? Why should the lives of so many people be imperiled to save a few dollars to his wealthy company? Day after day we read of stage robberies and murders, but still prople continue to ride where they are liable to be filled full of lead from some bandit’s rifle, whe is seeking the treasure which ls carried in the same conveyance with themselves. Very few stage robbers take Should it become known that no money would be carried on the same stage with passengers they would seldom, if ever, be molested. As it is, a guard is sent along as a protection to the money. on board, while his first effort to do his duty is sure to call down the fire of the brigands upon the defenseless passengers, Soa guard has the alternative of neglecting * his duty or imperiling the life of every pas— senger on his stage. Especially should there be provision for a ‘separate carriage when ihe-e are large shipments of money or _bulljom. Some men are born gfeat, some achieve greatness, while others have greatness thrust upon them, wrote the immortal bard. In those days the term great was not used so reckleasly as at the present time. Now it is very generally misused as the synonym of every other adjective; in fact it is a very handy word, And soit is that nearly every. body says a thing that pleases them or gratifies their appetite, is ‘‘ great.” If you try Gaylord’s groceries you will get some— thing that is great—in value, purity and freshness, Everything first-class.
