REGISTER. The Names of All Electors will be Canva: ~+ -Oblled Next Month. : ‘ALL 10 sary to cancel all names of electors now on tlie-Great ‘Register ‘of this county, ‘which action will be taken at the next meeting of the Board of Supervisors, The registration for the election to take piace next November 3d will cease August 10, any name hav~ ing been enrolled at a date after that will not appear on the printed register in use a: the polling place. There ‘is no restriction upon the time when a qualified elector may be enroll€d, the dates applying to the names that may appear on the .printed register, In this respect the law says the registration shall commence 160 days before the election and shall continue 75 days, when such registration shall cease. -Therefore the Clerk must be-in readiness t6 register the electors of the county’not later than May 26th, a all names placed on the register on or before August 10th will be sent to the printer to be printed in the precinct ‘register. In addition to requirements heretofore exacted of citizens who apply to. register there is the. educational qualfication which must be answered in the affifmative to be placed on the register. The ‘law says the registration must show the fact whether or not the elector desiring to be register is able to read the Constitution in the English
language ard to write his name, and whether or not the elector Kas any physical disability, It is claimed that there are fully ‘fifiy names now op the register of this county with all of the ‘requirements necessary for reregistration,.and some ‘persons say there are more. When an elector has been placed upon the printed register, that is, at any timé after it has been given to the printer: twenty-seven days before the election, he should not change from one precinct to another to reside, as that will deprive him of the right to vote. Tranfers from one county to another will not be placed upon the re= gister after August 10, but it is.not believed that there will be many transfers this year, as all counties have to make a new registra~ tion. There are plenty of safeguards now. to insmre an. honest election, exvept one important point and that is that the elector should’ not perpetrate “a fraud upon his own conscience by voting for policy instead of principle.
