A Few Inducoments Which Nevada County Offers to Settlers. First—Large areas-of:fertile lands, secur— ed by Government patent, can be purchased at such reasonable figures that afew hundred : dollars is sufficint to pay for a small farm. 7 Becond—The standard fruits grown in % this county are the finest. cf their varieties grown in the world. They are of a superior flavor and havea firmness of texture that gives them better shipping and keeping qualities than those grown at lower altitudes ‘and they find a ready market at remunerative prices. Third—The long summers permit of the rotation of crops, and the raising of two and oonenonpven three different crops~ from . the same _ land in a single season. Fourth—There is a ready market for all “ farm products at good prices. Fifth-There are excellent means of trans _, tral portion of ‘the county. : “ Sixth—There is an abundance of timber. _., Seventh—There is an inexhaustible supply of pure water, both for irrigating and domestic purposes. Eighth—The temperature is mild, both in summer and winter, andisnot subject to sudden changes. Ninth—The climate will eompare favorably with that of any other section of the Pacific Coast, even with the most favored, there being no malaria with its resulting ehills and fever, rio violent winds, no fogs, womebiewnd’ BOF floods, : Z : Tenth—The children reared in this cli{ usually acquire better physical constitutions, with more plumpness and firmness. of muscular developmeut as well as color and vitality of the blood than those reared in the valley or even coast counties. With this brief statement of facts, however, let it ba understood that we do not élaim for Nevada county that itis a paradise on earth, nor even the popular romance of sub-tropical glories. Nevada county lies a little north of the eentral line of California, and contains 4@ population of about 25,000. It extends from the summit of the Sierra Nevada mountains, on the east line of the State, westward a distance of seventy miles to the Sacramento Valley. It is from twelve to twenty miles wide. The altitudé is from two to three thousand feet along its central portion aud less than one thousand feet elevation in the western or valley region. The line of the Central Pacific Railroad’ crosses southern portion of the county for many miles.—_It-then enters Placer county; follow ing close to the southern boundary of Nevada county till near its western limit. The Nevada County Narrow Guage Railroad contp Ka nects with the Central Pacific at Colfax and i extends thence north to the central portion of the county, passing through Chicago Park, Grass. Valley, and terminating at Nevada City—twenty-two. miles from, the Central Pacific Overland Railroad. The central portions contain most of the rich gold gnines, including quartz, hydraulic and placer mines together with, the upper. portion of the Horticultural belt, while the western or foothill region consists éxclusively of agricultural and grazing lands. The horticultural and agricultural section of the eounty comprises about 250,000 acres of . land, a large per centage of which is adapted to cultivation. The topdgrapy of the county is such as to give variety to the pro ducts. We grow successfully in Nevada county: Oranges, lemons, citrons, figss, olives, apricots, plums, strawberries, blackberries, raspberries, gooseberries, hazel nuts, , black walouts, chestnuts, almonds, alia every kind of vegetable grown. ". Nevada City is the county seat of Nevada eounty: There are five daily, one tri-weekly and three weekly newspapers published \ in the county. The following named towns are in Nevada county: Nevada City, Grass Valley, Truckee, Boca, Rough and Ready, Spence= villé; Indian Springs, North San Juan, Birchville, Sweetland, Cherokee, French i Corral, Columbia Hill, Lake City, Malakoff, North Bloomfield, Derbec, Moore's Flat, Gramiteville, Ormonde, Washington, Alpha, Omega, Bear Valley, You Bet, Quaker Hill, Hunt's Hill, Red Dog, Little York, Chicago ’ Park, Baéna Vista, Blue Tent, Mooney Flat, Boston Ravine, Allison Ranch, Forest Springs, Patterson, Maybert.
