A CHRONIC c CANDIDATE,
A Man Who Is Alwiyio Coming Before the Public,
Nevada couniy has at least one man who
does not hide his light under a bushel. He
has been before the people of this city centinwally for the past fifteen years or so, and
although successful by a big majority in
every cumpaign from first to last he is as
far now from being satisfied as he was in
the long ago,
Of course this man will come to the front

He has never yet been elected on the
strength of his good looks, or anything of
that sort, nor does he expect to be this year.
He rests his fight solely on the issue that he
sells better groceries for less money than
any other candidate for trade. His last
name is Gaylord, his initials. G. C,

CHEAP LANDS.
Many Besters People Are Sure to
Come to This Section.
~ It is said that there is now more inquiry
for land in Northern California in the East
than ever befure. Northern California has
never received her share of Eastern settlers,
but now that they are beginning to look a
little further north than Los Angeles for
cirtus lands, this part of the State will reap
the benefit’if it is properly advertised. Nevada county has some fine land that can be
bought cheap, but the great trouble is that
the fact has never been published:to the
world at large. At the World's Fair the
their products that attracted attention on
all sides.. Not so with the Northern counties,
however, with afew exceptions. Of course
we haven’t the reputation of raising oranges
and lemons that Placer has, but we have as
good. lands for homes and our local markets
are the best in the State. Let us makesome
wganized effort to advertise our agricultural
as well as our mineral resources and all will
be benefitted thereby. The San Francisco
Post, speaking of cheap land in Caitores
gays:
The inducements now offered to settlers
on the farming and fruit lands of the State
wwe greater than they ever were before.
While it cannot be said that values have
appreciated materially; conditions have
changed for the better in many respects.
Immense tracts, which were formerly regardwater being offered for agricultural purposes at a very low rate, Then, again, the
large holders of ranches and grants which:
cover mil‘ions of acres of the finest land in
che State are now doing all'in their power
to invite an industrious class of immigrants,
In many oases small sub-divisions large
enough for the comfortable support of a
own terius, and in every instance tlie payments are extended over a period of time
Lpe enough to enable the land to pay for
itself. The industrious and economical farmer or fruit-grower can make a little capi~
tal go further today in Oaliforpia_ than in
any other part of the world.

“0. I. Hood & Co., Lowell Mass.:
‘Dear Sirs: Twenty-five years ago I-had
bilious fever, and typhoid fever, and for
five weeks I lay like one dead, but at last
I pulled through and got up around. I
soon discovered on my left leg just above
the knee a small brown spot about:as big
as a three-cent plece, which puffed up but
did not hurt me or feel sore. I did not pay
any attention to it until two years after,
when it commenced to spread and havo
the appearance of a ring worm. It itched
and burned and I dommenced doctoring, —
but to no avail. I

' And sometimes not-even that. I could not
sleep nights, and on account of the itching
I scratched the spot until the blood would
run. In hot weather my elbows and all _
my foints.were just the same, and what I
have suffered I cannot describe with a pen.
Last February I tried an herb for the
blood and it broke out in the worst form ot
a rash all over your body. I began my
scratching, and scales would fall off. The
sores discharged and I longed to die.
Finally my husband bought a bottle of
Hood's Sarsaparilla and I had not taken
more than half it before I began to change
for the better. I have had four bottles,
