With this brief statement of facts, hawever, let it ba understood that. we do not élaim for Nevada county that it is a paradise on earth, nor even the popular romance of sub-tropical glories. Nevada county lies a little north of the eentral line of California, and contains a population of about 25,000. It extends from the summit of tha Sierra Nevada mountains, on the east —_—westward-a distance of Sacramento Valley. Its from twelve to twenty miles wide. The altitude is from two to.three thousand feet along its central portion aud less than one thousand feet elevation in the western or valley region, The line of the Central Pacific Railroad crosses the eastern boundary, and traverses the southern portion of the county for many miles. It then enters Placer ovunty, follow ing close to the southern boundary of Nevada county till near its western limit.
