Movada City, Nevads ‘County, CALIFORNIA. \ ‘ alee tans TERMS : 007 TUESDAY, APRIL 20, 1886.ry ; ROADS AND. DISPLAY. The Nevada. WTRANSORIFT ia quite’ — because the age ah proposal or sc to a $400 of the county’s ened to the end that somebody _ from this county might be enabled to go to the State Fair and to the Mechanic’s Institute Fair and show off the county’s productions. ‘We did not mean to make the _ TRanscrIPT a bee are os posed to appropr’ating public moneys for private displays.. The Misbecrass offits nut if it thinks . ‘we are en soagecred in favor of purthink ly nt to haw all oug ave a ’~ its roads free. There should not be atoll road in all this county. . “Until the county has free commerce _over all her hi » gh she should ee ive any Of her money for disots at any fa fair. =G. Vv. 4 td “The ‘Tidings has said many times that no county can hope to “pring its merits before the people ima proper manner without ad' ‘yertising the fact; that no“ merthant can expect :to get public patronage without advertising; that, no. business, man. -will ever get rich without ‘advertising—all of which we ‘concur in, To do these things it costs.money. In the case of individual benefit. the parties should foot their own bills. In the case of the county, where every tax-payer would indirectly receive the benefit, we contend that itso more'than right that they” Should be equally taxed. We never believed that the Tidings would evér resort to such a : miserable subterfuge aé it-has in * this case. It is an insult to say that the appropriation of $400 is ascheme to'the end that somebody from this county might be enabled to go tothe State Fair and show off the county’s productions. ‘We know of no one who wants to go. We contend that somebody should be sent there with specimens of every article that we produce, and the very same Tidings} man knows that it should be done. It is a waste of words to attempt _ to show what a world of good it would do this section by attract. ing the attention of capitalists and settlers here, and it is all ‘“‘damnonsense” for the Tidings to assert that the appropriation asked for is for private displays. ‘‘Wait till the county has free commerce over all her highways. before we spend money for displaying any citizen or any of her products” is an argument unworthy the once _ liberal minded Shoemaker. We believe the ugly position the Tid‘dings has taken in this matter can beexplained in afew words, thusly : Bécause'the Grass Valley Union suggested it; and because the Transcript opposed the purchase . of Gephard’s toll road. The Tidings knows as well as we do that the wicked plagg will freeze over before the colihty will ever purchase axu thé toll roads, andit is idle to talk about waiting for anything contingent upon a fact that never will be a reality. —__________ Wuy will you cough when, Shiloh’s Cure will give immediate relief. Marysville had a narrow escape of being flooded on Saturday last. The water in the Yuba roce higher than at anytime this season, and the people began to feel alarmed.. The levees there are about twenty feet higher than the town, and the river bed several feet higher than the town itself: If an old+time flocd should come we know the city of MarysVille could not hold out: against, it, andthe residents should emigrate in good condition while they can. %& Italian Rye, Red Clover, Timothy and Altalfa seeds for sale at ¥.
