McIntire, who for the past seven months bas been an invalid, died at twenty minutes past’ 2 o’clock this afternoon at the home of her ‘mother, on Water street. Death resulted from heart disease, Mise, McZntire was a native of Austin, Nevada, and was aged 19 years and 10 months. She was an accomplished young lady of a very amiable disposition. and was beloved by all who knew her. The sorrowing relatives have the sympathy of all. Kyran Phelan, one of the oldest residents of the San Juan ridge, died yesterday afternoon abont threé o’clock at his home in the little town of Cherokee ‘. in which locality he had mined 2a a He was a native of Ireland, aged nearly 70 years and unmarried. He was. born in Ireland and. coming. to America when a young man. worked awhile in St. Louis from which city he came to Nevada county. He was naturalized in this county in 1856. Mr. Phelan was an honest, warmhearted man. M. Phelan of Shady Creek is his brother, the Phelan sisters who conduct 'a restaurant at this city being his nieces.. ‘The funeral will take place tomorrow. Services will be held in this city at ten o’clock in the forenoon, and the remains will be taken for burial to Grass Valley where a brother:of his is interred. The Degree of of Honor. The Degree of Honor initiated” three candidates last night, and the meeting was in every way an enjoyable one. Thé officers entertained the lodge. In the prize contest the winners were Jas. Hackley who carried off first honors, and Miss Edith Rosenthal who got the second prize. To Add More Stamps. Superintendent Harmon of the California mine is making arrangements to add more stamps to the ten now in the mill. The.mine is in fine condition, and the increasing of the milling facilities is fully warranted by the qhality and size of the ore bodies. Putting In:a Dynamo. The Nevada Foundry is putting in a thirty-light electric dynamo at the Texas mine to furnieh light for the ~} hoisting’ works and underground. It will be in operation this week. Just what the weather will be for the next ten days I have been unable to determine, except that it ‘will not be a tame affair. Sometimes these great disturbances expand their forces in a great hot wave, sometimes in a great cold wave, or in tornadoes. Generally the nature of these great disturbances can be determined, but this one is difficult and lean only warn my readers that unusual and severe weather will occur in many parts of the United States. He had purchased the property from the Newell estate a few months ago and had no insurance upon it. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Thomas and Mrs. A. D. Mason, the parents and sister of Herbert Thomas, left here for Birchville as soon as they learned of the fire. Cotsy, Ky., March 24.—Bob Miller, aged 16, shot and killed his brother Reuben, aged 18, and then turned the weapon on himself with fatal effect. The decision was written by Justice Garontte and concurred in by all the other Justices excepting “Beatty, who is out of town. Two More Warships. Newport News, W. Va., March 24.— The United States battleships Kearsage was launched successfully today at 10:02 and the Kentucky left the ways at 10:35. They are 368 feet long, have 72% feet beam and 23% feet draft. Each carries 410 tons of coal. It will take 511 officers, marines and sailors apiece to man them. Back to the Asylum. San Jose, March 24.—Henry Conrad, supposed to be from San Francisco, arrived alone at.Agnews today in a wildly insane condition and was lodged in the Asylum. He was discharged from the institution several years ago as cure d. Made a Big Haul. Fresno, March 24.—It is believed the two men who robbed the S. P. train near Goshen night before last got $60-, 000, there being on the train $35,000 worth of gold dust ‘from Randsburg and $25,000 in the mail pouch. He stated emphatically that he proposed to avert war with Spain if possible and expresséd the hope that he would be able to do so. The Pittsburg Flood. Prrrspure, Mareh 24.—A sudden’ fall in temperature this morning has caused the waters to begin receding. The flood is not quite so great as that of 1891, but is the most destructive since 1884. The loss willrun into hundreds ofthousands. The lowlands here are under water, and it will be.a week or more before business resumes its normal condition.
