Lonpon, May 13—The committee which was appointed
by the Stock Exchange have made an agreement with John
Pierrepont Morgan, whereby he promises to suspend buying

at one hundred and forty. —
Considerable nervousness still remains along the stock

Ghe Sierra Wevadas Defeat the
Yob Hill of Grass Valley.
Yesterday afternoon Conley’s field
was the scene of a contest between the
Nob Hill baseball team of Grass Valley
and the Sierra Nevadas of this city.
The game was spirited from start to
finisb, and the umpire, Frank Smith,
was fair in his decisions. The Sierra
Nevadas made six runs inthe seventh
inning, but this did not disconcert
the Grass Valley boys for they struggled to the bitter end. Mounday, the
pitcher for the Nob Hills was very
effective until the disastrous seventh,
but he still needs some training.
Hocking, the pitcher for the Nevada
boys, had good control of the bali,
and had the best of support. These
nines will meet againin the near
future, and it can be gainsayed that
it will be a battle royal.
The Sierra Nevadas will go to Colfax next Sunday, when they will try
conclusions with a nine at that place.
