The following startling and interesting news comes to us from the Bay city: The California delegates to the National Repablican Convention are going to. It. -wae ‘understood from the very start that they would observe the ordinary custom of any other State, but many of the delegates themselves do not yet know, that in the selection of their convention gatb they are bound by iron clad rules. . The whole thing was settled at a meeting of the committee on arrangements, composed of Cole, Spreckels and Hale, at the Union league Club Monday. The first question that came up was the transportation. It was quickly settled. «We must have the best conveyance in the land,” said Hatbor Commissioner Cole, and all agreed with him. So it was decided to travel in & Sunset special composed of four coaches and a dining car and a combination car, containing a buffet, barber shop and other conveniences. Mrs. Willington and daughter, of Grass Valley, past through town this morning en route to Sierra county. R. V. Halton: of Alameds, and W. E. Yean of San Francisco, arrived here last evening on their way to Washington. Robert Martin and Miss Lottie Martin, Wm, H, Martin and Miss May Martin, left on the noon train for San Francisco. A. F. Donnelly and McPhetres, Foster says May is usually a quiet weather month, but for this year severe storms may be expected in parts of the United States from the 16th to the 24th, C. W. Kitts of Grass Valley was on the Platform Committee at the Populist Convention. R. E. Bush, formerly of this city, also took a prominent part in the affairs ot that body. Birthday Social, The Ladies Aid Society of this city is arranging to give an entertainment at the Methodist Church in about two weeks known as a Birthday social.
