An Able Successor,
: Wm. KH. Mitts.
Owing to the departure of Mr. William H. Mills for the Pan: American
Exposition, where he is to have charge
of the Souther Pacific Companys’s ex
hibit, he bas found it impossible, in his
absence, to acjast the newspaper business of the Southern Pacitic Company,
which he has so long handled. Mr
Mills hae, therefore, requested President Hays to name another department to which the newspaper interests
may be transferred, and Mr. Hays has,
accordingly, designated the Passenger
Department, which pract ically means
that Mr: E. O. McCormick will deul
with the pressin the future. The
TRANSCRIPT joins with scores of papers
in the State in congratulating Mr.
Mills on his long and satisfactory administration in this office. ' His course
has been undeviatingly obliging and
just and his uniform courtesy has won
bim friends wherever he has had dealings with the newspapers. : Whether
the change is permanent or temporary,
Mr. E. O, McCormick is well chosen as
his sugcessor, and no doubt that Mr
Mills’ excellent policy will be: continaed by him.
