THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 23, 1893. ANOTHER EMPIRE. The Orleans Machinery in Place and Working Satisfactorily. Union: The splendid machinery at the Orleans mine was yesterday morning set in motion by Mr. Joseph Bennallack, who had the contract. of removing the plant from its former location to where it 1s now located. The Orleans is situated about two hundred yards southeast of the famous Empire mine. The character of its cre is identical with that. of ite neighbor,;and there is every reason to believe that it is an extension of the mother lode. The mine is owned by a strong company of which Mr. Geo. P, Thurston ot San Francisco is a large stockholder and general manager. ‘There is nota share of stock on the inarket for sale, but the company will put up all the capital necessary te develop the mine. When work was left off on the Orleans mine about three months ago by Ambrose Powning & Co. there was a good-sized ledge in sight which paid as high as $70 aton. The contractors sunk the shaft 157 feet by the use of a whim, when water was enccuntered and work had to cease.
