The Orleans Machinery in Place and
Working Satisfactorily.
Union: The splendid machinery at the
Orleans mine was yesterday morning set in
motion by Mr. Joseph Bennallack, who had
the contract. of removing the plant from its
former location to where it 1s now located.
The Orleans is situated about two hundred
yards southeast of the famous Empire mine.
The character of its cre is identical with
that. of ite neighbor,;and there is every reason to believe that it is an extension of the
mother lode. The mine is owned by a strong
company of which Mr. Geo. P, Thurston ot
San Francisco is a large stockholder and
general manager. ‘There is nota share of
stock on the inarket for sale, but the company will put up all the capital necessary te
develop the mine. When work was left off
on the Orleans mine about three months ago
by Ambrose Powning & Co. there was a
good-sized ledge in sight which paid as high
as $70 aton. Mr. Thurston & Co. recently
