Vinton is arranging his Christmas goods, of which he has just received: a fine stock, including the latest noveities. Ed. McCauley and Henry Breed went over to Cherokee yesterday on a hunting trip and brought back a fine buck deer. The Democratic County Centra] Committee met in this city Saturday to settle up the business relating to the recent cam paign. . Constable Richards brought Pat O’Don" ‘nell up from Grass Valley this afternoon to serve twenty days in the county jai] for disturbing the peace. : The ranchers in: the lower part of. the county are wishing for rain, which they say is needed very much, It looks as though their wishes are soon to be granted, Chickens and turkeys will be in demand this week. Peddlers of poultry will begin to show up by tomorrow. They have been backward about getting around this season, The building put up on the Grass Valley road where William Seaman had a blacksmith shop at one time, is to be used asia storehouse for kerosene by George E. Turner. The two Grass Valleyans who visited the tamale shop Friday night and skipped out without paying for what they eat, were arrested Saturday and fined, one of them being assessed $10, the other $11.50. A new crossing is being put down trom Johnston’s grocery store to A, Lademan’s residence, Broad street, and one from Johpston’s to the sidewalk near A. Blumenthal’s residence.’ : The walk to Pine Grove Cemetery, from the end ot the wooden sidewalk to the burying ground, is in good shape now. It is of gravel with granite curbing on each side, The cost of this improvement was paid by several of the lodges and by the city. E. D. Bridges, who did the work, also contributed. Making Good . Headway. James Gross and John Coan, the conee ee okempy vhew OVWre wewele fur the new bridge, are making good progress and the work is being done in the best manner. The abutment on the Plaza side will be well up by the end of this week should .the weather remain pleasant. The old tim' bers and other debris have been removed from the opposite bank where the other abutment is to be built. This. can be put up quicker than the other one, as it will not be so high and there is a natural. foundation upon which to build the wall. About twelve men are at work, and the tiumber of spectators that are on hand to watch them gives the vicinity a lively appearance. There is a demand for houses now and it will increase by another year. Next summer there will be a lot of new houses built in and around this city. Desirable building lots are getting: scarce inside the city limits and‘it will not be long before every available piece of ground will have a house upon it, A number of large town lots have been divided up into smaller ones within the past few years and there are now very few of these big lots left. People who wish to put up dwellings will soon have to buy ground outside the corporation. There is plenty of land near town and there are a number of nice houses outside the limits, but nene of them are vacant, Fine Wines and Liquoks. The stock carried by A.
