Nw. 4.WERE WELL ENTERTAINED. The Cadmus and Home Stockholders Had a Round of Pleasure. After the visiting San Franciscans returned from the Cadmus mine Saturday afternoon, they repaired to the National, where they had ‘dinner and took a short rest. In the evening they divided into small parties and made a tour of the business portion of the town and.were introduced to numerous citizens. ° Yesterday forenoon most of them went out to'the Electric Power Company’s works and viewed the work that has beendone there. : In the evening a reception was held at the National Hotel in honor of the visitors, Goyne’s band’ was preggpt and furnished music, speeches were made by E. J. Rector, R. C. Walrath, Charlee+Stepp,. T. H. Carr, Charles Grimes, E. J, Brooks, Edwin Tilley, Phil Goyne, Samuel Butler and John Martin, of the Electric Power Company’s works,. Everybody was happy and none more so than the visitors, all of whom were loud in their praise of the people of Nevada, City for the many courtesies extended. Goyne’s Band was highly complimented by the gentlemen from San Francisco, and a suggestion being made that the musicidns should be encouraged, Mr, E.° J. Brooks, correspondent of the Call, proposed that a subscription be taken up, and started the list by subscribing $4 for the Call. Charles ‘Stepp, President of the Cadmus Mining Company, subscribed $20. Subscriptions for smaller amounts soon became_ general, and in a few minutes $40 were raised and paid to the leader of the band. A vote of thanks was tendered to the donors by the band, The money will be applied towards the purchase of uniforms or used in buying music, Most of the visitors left on the 11 o’clock train last night, others did not leave until today, and the rest will,.yo home tomorrow, They all expressed themselves as delighted with their trip to our town, and say they intend to make another visit here some day, Those of our citizens who took charge of the reception and entertainment of tle strangers are deserving of credit for the manner in. which all the details were arranged and carried out, ee Haverly’s Mastodons. Once again Col, J. H. Haverly has ‘thung his banners on the outer wall,” annoancing the forthcoming appearance here of. his Mastodon Minstrel Company. The company isa large and very expensive one, consisting of the highest salaried and best obtainable artists, who will unite their efforts in presenting an exposition of minstrelay that will be an innovation, The **Mastodons” have always. been the lofty ideal in minstrelsy, and nothing has been left undone or overlooked to have it remain in that position. In attending a performance of the ‘*Mastodons” the general public are never in doubt as to whether it will be a good or mediocre entertainment; for they know full well that it is an organization of reliability, whose every uromise is kept to the letter, and they are satisfied the performance will be first-class.
