M, Estee Is Given a Grand Reception. HIS POSITION CLEARLY STATED. The Remarks Made by Colonel Lee Fairchild Were Both Witty and Trpthful. Hon. M, M. Estee, Republican nominee for Governor, may well feel proud of the grand reception he was given in Nevada City last night. Our town people were out in full force to greet him, the surrounding country helped swell the throng, and seven full carloads of people came by special train from Grass Valley, bringing along Green’s fine brass band. There were many more who wanted to come from Grass Valley, but sufficient accommodations had nut been provided, The blazing bonfires and bright colored lights, supplemented with a display of rockets, Roman candles and flower pots, illuminated the principal streets for awhile and the enlivening strains of music furnished by two bands filled the people with good cheer as s they ‘wended’ their way “to the Theater, where the meeting was held. A Governor’s salute was also fired, Altogether the demonstration was a most fitting one and must ‘have impressed the Republican standard bearer very favorably with the people of this section. Shortly after 8 o'clock .a committee, preceded by the Nevada City Brass Band, escorted Mr, Estee to the Theater, which was already filled to overflowing and many had to be turned away, not even standing room being available. The stage was very tastily decorated with tlags, banners, flowers, etc., and presented a pleasing appearanee, Mr, Estee adorned the walls of the alcove or recess into which the back portion of the platform had been transformed. After music by Green’s Band .of Grass Valley, Nat. P. Brown,. Chairman of the Republican County Central Committee, yalled the meeting to order and briefly stated its object. . Hon, E. M. Preston was named as Chairman of the meeting. Before asjuming the duties he delivered a very elojuent address, The following persons had heen selected as Vice Presidents: — C. E. Mulloy, J. A. Northway, John F: Hook, I’. T. Hughes, Dr, C. W. Chapman, W. F. Englebright, 8. K, Thornton, Hon. J. Sims, E, F. Rosenthal, Wm. Messervy, Geo. M. Hughes, J. C. Rich, Hon, W. D. C, Walrath, O. K, Cloudman, K. Casper J. E. Poingdestre, Capt. Geo, A. > Robert Deeble. James J, Hanley and W. were chosen as Secretaries, After the Vice Presidents and Secretaries had taken seats provided for them upon the stage, the Chairman introduced the Hon. M. M. Estee, who was received with rapturous applause. The eminent gentlemen iddressed the large assemblage in a very fervent, earnest manner, treating upon the W. Williams clearly demonstrated his ability to deal with all the questions of State and national importance. His speech was not long or tiresome, and was substantially the same as he has delivered at other places. The following is a synopsis of bis remarks: Two years ago the people concluded they wanted a change ; they got tariff reform, and then came the change. Finding that it was an injury they now want another change, They realize that the change of two years ago was a mistake. For thirty years they enjoyed peace and prosperity. In thirty years America had risen to be a great nation, and we had the greatest credit of any nation in the world. They had paid considerable of the national debt; they had paid a large amount in pensions to the soldiers, time in the history of the world had such pensions been paid to men who fought for liberty and honor and the glory of the country. The wheels of machinery moved and smoke came from all the factoriesin the ‘land. The laborer was paid three times as much agin any country in the world. Important Quartz Developments Near Forbestown. George Finch was down from Forbestown yesterday, and in conversation with a reporter of the Oroville Mercury told of the rich prospects that he is developing. He is interested in two exteusive ledges on the north side of the South Foik of Feather river, opposite Forbestown. He had with him a number of beautiful samples of ore, showing rich in free gold and high grade su'phurets. The ledges are of recent discovery and of great extent, and development work is being pushed on both of them, In one of them E. Ellsworth is associated with Mr, Finch in the ownership. It json the average six fect wide and assays show the ore to go $10 free gold, $180 in silver and the sulphurets $300 per ton. The other ledge is owaed by Mr. Finch, Sau Titus and L. C. Jacobs. and averages thirteen feet in width. The ore assays $29 in free gold and the sulphurets $300 per ton, The ledges can be traced for miles and Mr. Finch and his partners have every reason to believe that they have a bonanza. ———-+ +e0-+ Constipation and all irregularities of the bowels are best remedied by the use of Ayer's Cathartic Pills, : Tendered ‘a Rece sception.
