cabaret: Aas seo SOIT ENE SEINE cs quiet. THE TRANSCRIPT Established Sept. 6, 1860, by Nat. P. Brown & Co. NEVADA CITY, NEVADA CO., CALIFORNIA BROWN & CALKINS, ° WEDNESDAY. ... SEPT. 1, 1897. ANTI-MINERS IN SESSION. The ‘Sples Make Their Reports-—More Suits to be Began The Sacramento Bee of last. evening gays: The executive satiate of the State Anti-Debris Association held its regular mouthly meeting this morning at the rooms of the Board of Supervisors, The reports’ of Manager W. T. Phipps ard watchmen under his charge were received. Samples were submitted showing that in some places small stones, in addition to the slickens and matter carried in suspension, were transported by the action of the water used in mining into the main river channels. It was estimated that from: one mine alone 5000 cubic yards of this material were deposited in the river each day. The mines reported on were referred to the attorney of the association tocommence proper legal proceed. ’ ——— ings. The Committee on Special legislation reported that-it had met a commiitee from the Miners’ Association with u view of discussing Congressional appropriations, but that the conference had adjourned witout coming to a conclusion, to meet aguin in San Francisco after the rendition of the report of the examining commission on the rivers, at which time it will be defifhitely known what the engineers have recommended, and when intelligent action can be taken. Robert T. Devlin, the attorney for the Association, made a report of the several suits pending in Court under his charge, and also of some suits he has in preparation. Quite a lengthy discussion followed on topics in which the Association is interested. It appears from actual measurements taken that the fill. at Marysville“in the river has increased to a depth of a foot within the past two years, gradually receding upwards, showing the, necessity for retaining the material in the river bed between De Guerre Point and Marysville. It is proposed this year to raise the levees surrounding Marysville to an average . height of a foot and a half and the city has levied a tax of 50 cents on each $100 worth of taxable property for that purpose. ‘The committee adjourned till its regular meeting day in September. First Lesson in Real Business. The old man had given his son a very fair education, and after graduating he took him into his store. The young fellow was over-nice abouta great many things, but the father made. no comment. Oneday.an order came in from acustomer. “I wish to goodness,” exclaimed the son, “that Jones would learn to spell.” “What’s the matter with it?” inquired the father cheer. fully. “Why, he spells coffee with a K.” “No, does he? I never noticed it.” “Of course you never did,” said the son pettishly. “You never did notice anything like that.” “Perhaps net, my son,” replied the old man gently; “but there is one thing I do notice, which you will notice by and by, and that is that Jones pays cash.” «@> Two Voices. For more than twenty years we have been telling how Scott’s Emulsion overcomes the excessive waste of the system, puts on flesh, nourishes and builds up. the body, making it the remedy for all wasting diseases of adults and children, but it dsn’t possible for us to tell the story in a mere stickful of newspaper type. We have had prepared for us by a physician a little book, telling in easy words how and why Scott’s Emulsion benefits, and a postal card request will be enough to have it sent to you free.
