s 4The Nevada City Nugget, Friday, July 1, 1949 3 BASEBALL GAMES — FOR DIAMOND FANS Three baseball games will be offered Nevada City fans here this weekend. Sunday afternoon at Pioneer park at 2:30 the Merchants will play Georgetown in a Foothill league game. The same time in Watt park, Grass Valley, the Nevada City Athletics will tackle the powerful Grass Valley Braves in a ’Placer-Nevada league game. Manager Marvin Haddy announced this morning Latino and Fouyer will be the batteries for the Grass Valley game. Monday, the Fouth of July, the Athletics will be host to the Celfax Fireballs in Pioneer park. Game time is 2:30 and Jake Goldsberry is slated for mound duty for the game. July 22 Dinner Date For Softball Lights « Volunteer Workers The Nevada County © Softball association meeting Tuesday at the Memorial Park Community House, Grass Valley, set July 22 as the tentative date for a dinner honoring PG and E and PT and ' T volunteer workers who’ contributed to the recent project of erecting new light poles at Memorial Park field. The, association also decided to recognize eligibility of players who have homes in assocation territory but work outside. Many players work in lumber camps. Best Player Trophy To Be Displayed Here The. outstanding player trophy of the Placer-Nevada baseball league has arrived and is being exhibited around the league. It is showing in Grass Valley this week and will be on display in Nevada City next week. The trophy was, presented to the league by the Sacramento _Solons baseball team of the Pacific Coast league. BOARD OF SUPERVISORS TO MEET NEXT TUESDAY Nevada county board of supervisors will meet Tuesday, 10 a.m. at the courthouse. Mrs. Kuska President Of Dog Fanciers Unit Mrs. Ralph Kuska was named president of the Nevada County Dog Fanciers association at a meeting at the Ridge Road home of Mr. and Mrs, Ralph Kuska. Miss Enid Duncan, Sacramento, helped with the organization of the club. Other officers named were Mrs. Seth Terry, vice president; Mrs. Louise Rehm, secretarytreasurer; and Miss Roxanne LaRoche, librarian. There are 12 charter members in the association. CHAPMAN © COMPLETES COURSE AT ARMY COLLEGE Lt. Col. Warren C. Chapman, Inf. was graduated last week from a regular course at the Command and General Staff College, Fort Leavenworth, Kans.
He is on his way to the Presidio of Monterey, where he will attend an army language school. Completion of that will see him transferred to the Strategic Intelligence School, Washington, DiC. : On completion of that course in the capital he will be sent to Rome, Italy, to be assistant military attache. Col. Chapman expects the tour of duty in Italy will last three years. Col, and Mrs. Chapman, and two children, Richard (Rickie) Warren, and, Judith (Judy) Ann, will arrive here tomorrow for a week-end visit with his father, Dr. C. W. Chapman, and sister, Miss Helen Chapman, and to attend the dedication ceremonies of the A. A. Sargent monument Sunday afternoon at Pioneer cemetery. Col. Chapman served in Italy during World War II as commanding officer of the first battalion, 133rd infantry regiment, 34th division. His unit took the first block of houses in the occupation of Cassino, and he was plans and operations officer for the Anzio beachhead campaign. Chapman was wounded in the final days of fighting in the Po valley.Scott Asks Judgment On Garage Account Ray Scott filed suit in Nevada county superior court yesterday asking $612.23 judgment against Ainsley Fouyer and James Fields. Scott charges the amount represents an unpaid bill for repairing a logging dolly and automobile owed Hugh Steinhoff and S. R. Dahl, former owners of the Plaza Garage, and who assigned the accounts to Scott when he pur-. chased the business recently. Other actions filed in superior court were quiet title cases.
