A granite boulder protruding into the excavation yesterday was shattered with small charges of dynamite. An interesting ‘process is followed in setting off the hblosts. ‘The fuse is set with a wooden box over it, then fifteen or sixteen old used tires are piled over it to cushion the explosion. They were brilliantly constructive and benefited the entire state. But bringing Governor YYoung’s splendid achievement while in office down to particular cases, down to brass tacks Lode? He started and carried through almost to completion several splendid mountain roads including the Tahoe-Ukiah highway, that magnificent thoroughfare which crosses this county longitudinally. coe. And as between these highways and what he did not do
for hydraulic mining, which will you choose? He has made Nevada County accessible to thousands of people who spend thousands upon thousands of dollars in these mountains in the course of a year, hunting, fishing and touring. Did Young foster these great mountain highways, that give easy access to most of the mines, hydraulic or quartz, because there was a great number of votes to be had here? He can hardly be accused of that. _ He did it for the love of the Sierra Nevada mountains, for the love of ‘his great State of California. He was brought ‘up to love this golden state, its golden mountains and world outlook over the vast Pacific. This sentiment is bred .in his bones. And with such a man to choose, will Californians here and elsewhere through the state, elect to employ for the . office of Governor, a Man from Iowa?
