POSTOFFICE HAS LARGEST DECEMBER IN HISTORY The Nevada City post office is concluding ffie largest December business in its history which is indicative the fact that Nevada City is growing and also that the merchants enjoyed a fine holiday trade. Postmaster: Scadden reports that thee has been a large increase in the number of box holders. The largest previous sales in the history of the office was in 1922 whe the stamp sales ran $1483.30 ‘for the month. D. Dorr: general manager. MICHELL CRAIG PASSED AWAY IN OREGON PAST Wo & Michael F. Craig, first engineer on rhe Narrow Gauge railroad passed away the past week at the home -f nis son, Fank W. Craig at Ashland, Oregon, at the ripe age of 94 years. He was a native of Ireland. Mr. Craig came to Nevada City andrhelped in the bringing of the railroad in 1875 and pulled the throttle on the first trip. -He was a member of the Masonic order. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Harry Lowe, and a son, Frank: W. Craig. Burial took place in Monterey. John Werry Butler of Grass Valley and Miss Edtos Black of Sacramento secured a license from County Clerk Coughlan Saturday .morn‘ing and were married by Judge Raglan Tuttle in his chambers. The Murchie, Alice Bell and Westen Merger will be the first on the produetion chart with the ElDorado, German Bat and. TWin Sister soon to follow. The Brush Creek property. went onto a production basis the past year and with the completion of shaft sinking operations will resume milling. Sierra county saw nine. hydraulic properties in operation with over 183,000 cubie yards of gravel washed during the year. Several new properties will be added tothe list this year and with the revival of interest. at Sierra City,.will see Sierra county on the map in good shape again. The Alleghany and Sierra City districts are both due for a big comeback. ; Nevada City Section — _ The rehabilitation of the Murchie property .has been the outstanding feature of the local district the past year and with the 20 stamp mill at. this property in full production will mean’ much to this county as this mine is one of the admittedly rich properties of the state. The lease on the Alice Bell has seen a new stamp mill erected and as sdon as the power hookup is completed tht stamps will be dropping on th~’ rich ore which has recently uncovered. ees The Western Merger mill will be completed in a few weeks and with the large reserves of high grade ore which have been blocked out the past year will have a long run ahead.
