Wanda Stinson and Bill Tobiassen Betrothed Mr. and Mrs. Murl Stinson announced the engagement of their daughter, Wanda, to William Tobiassen, son of Mr. and Ma. Carl J. Tobiassen. ’ Miss Stinson came here with her parents from Mojave where she attended school. She was chosen by the Nevada City Soroptimist club to be the Goddess of Liberty in Tuesday’s Fourth of July Centennial celebration paracle., Tobiassen, now attending summer session of the College--of ‘the Pacific, Stockton, and a teacher in ithe Nevada City schools, was born and raised in Nevada City. Lolami Council of Roseyille brought the messenger of good will with their degree team. Ponemah council was proud to be hostess to over one hundred visiting members who trail to the local tepee in honor of the traveling tomahawk. Represented were councils of Roseville, Auburn, Lincoln, Marysville, Oroville, Grass Valley and far-away White Eagle council of Chicago. Euhalla council of Oroville has asked Ponemah council to -bring the-traveling tomahawk to their tepee at a later date. Mrs. Thelma Butz has been recommended for Deputy Great Pocahontas for Ponemah council for the coming year. After the meeting the group gathered in the banquet hall and enjoyed light refreshments. Craig and his sister, Florence, spent their childhood in the famous “castle.” Their father, Michael Craig, sold this historic residence to the present. owners. Mrs. Craig, their mother, could tell many interesting ‘stories of early California history, as her father, Judge Rumsey, was one of the first federal judges in the newly formed state when the capital was in Monterey. ROUND-UP OF VEALES Richard Veale of Denair, Wilyard Veale of Vallejo and Calvin Veale of Sacramento, all brothers of Charles W. Veale of Nevada City, are enjoying their vacations nere in cool Nevada county. . NEVADA COUNTY NATIVE IS CALLED BY DEATH Funeral services were held yesterday afternoon at Holmes Funeral Home for Mrs. Clara Louise Trevethick, 83, native of Grass Valley and resident of Nevada City for 59 years, who died Monday at the county hospital. Rev. Max Christensen, rector of Trinity Episcopal church, officiated. Burial was in the Odd Fellows cemetery, Grass Valley. Mrs. Trevethick was born Oct. 18, 1866, the oldest child of Mr. and Mrs. John Williams. On July 1, 1888, she was married to Sampson S. Trevethick, who preceded her in death Nov. 22, 1945. She is survived by-.sons, Edward and William of Sacramento; George of Tahoe Valley, and Carl of Nevada City; daughters, Mrs. Ruth Johnson, Oakland; Mrs. Helen Kiefer of Nevada City, and Mrs. Adele Deal of Forest; two brothers, George Hugunin of Arcata, and Ed Hugunin of Lodi; a sister, Mrs. Nell Roney of Bakersfield, and a cousin, Miss Clara Carson of. Grass Valley. Nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren survive. ~ Calaveras county is one of the original 27 counties of California. ¥ . . sister of Mr. Price.
