the Industrial Commission, the minIn a single western state, accerd-}
issued report of
ing industry represents employment
for over 10,000 men and a payroll
of $17,000,000. :
In that same state it was found
that aside from ‘these direct beneficiaries of the industry, about 60
per cent of men employed in railiway frieght service are engaged -in
transporting metal products. Mining
affects the lives and prosperity of
workers in almost’ every line of
activity from farm hands to physicians.
Sveral. large and flourishing communities in the state depend entire‘y on mining for their existence.
Any substantial cessation in mining
activities or payroll reductions
would be a serious blow a the entire state’s progress.
This is a typical
situation that prevails in the great
metal mining stdtes. The stabilizationof all phases of the indusry,
the incrased scientific and excutive
efficiency and economy, and the increasing demand for metal producg
plays a vast part in maintaining
the high sandards of American ecivilization, . Mining creates>— prosperity
