The North San Juan baseball boys
officially opened the season in this
districtlast Sunday with a spangup, big-league stuff game with the
Forest Hill team. Mayor Gordon
Kessler started the game by throwing the first ball to Mike Denike
with’ Judge Lewis Woods as catcher. Mike stood calm and collected
with bat in approved poise ready for
action while two wild balls tangled
with the chicken wire around the
back stop. But the third ballwas a
honey and the bat connected and
Mr. Denike was off to first base.
Without a doubt the world lost a
good trackman when Mike decided to
become a bartender.
Forest Hill was first up with the
hickory but Elmo Dudley pitching
for the San Juan team, leisurely
went about his business and outside
of walking a left handed husky the
first half was a blank. The last half
was useless for the Ridge team also.
Dudley began the second inning
by sending the Forest Hill boys back
to the foot of the line up scoreless.
At the beginning of the last of the
second Left, Aiken pounded the
plate with burning ambition . but
slowly fanned out. Then Andy Yori
made a run to first and stole second. Francis Reader, next up, tipped a fly and out. Edgar Cunningham sent one out in the wild oats
and made second while Yori hit the
grit for home. Chuck Cameron made
two bases, stole one and Cunningham
brought the score up to two.
Dudley methodically set to work
again in the beginning of the third
