JUST WONDERIN’
I wonder as the days go by,
So fraught with memory,
Of times that are forever past,
And hope for days to be;
If we can find in every one
Some thought to speed us on the way
From errors that today prevail
To that for which we pray.
The days of our years pass by with flying feet, seasons
come and go, years vanish like the mists of morning. Many
of the days that come with their peculiar significance, speak to
us of the past or inspire in our minds, hope for a future which
shall transfoorm the present and bring to the weary world the
long era of peace for which her people long.
There should be great inspirational power in such days as
J am an American day and Good Cititzenship Day, but with
some of our people they seem to be of small import.
I wonder what those two days mean to the false leader,
John Lewis. . think I know. Still John has some sentiment in
his crusty head for just a few days ago he whined, *
for the miners there is no balm of Gilead.”
I wonder if the bristling browed John ever considered
‘evidently
the
fact that the general public would like some sort of balm applied to his miseries. Oh nothing so fancy and expensive
balm of Gilead; no, the general public would be definit
content with a portion of plain, old fashioned salve.

Of what are we reminded when we see the red poppys
of Flanders Field blossoming again upon every street and in
every home and mart of trade? Surely we see in fancy the—
““crosses row on row’ that mark the graves of those who gave
their all during the first world war, in the mistaken belief that
they were winning for the world surcease from the age
blight of war. How we failed to keep faith with
heroes of the past too well we know. Now we have the
old
these our
opportunity of being true to a younger generation of heroes but
will we fail them also (yes) ‘ ‘in Flanders field the poppies
grow’ and in many another land today white crosses tell the
story of wasted youth, of sorrow and tragedy beyond ‘the
power of words to express and wherever the crosses stand and
the poppies grow—
A gentle presence lingers near,
To whom the blood red poppies pray,
“Send Lord the thousand years of peace
And wash war’s crimson stains away. ’"—A. Merriam Conner.

1 FLY FISHING
. AND TRUCKEE
'#@njoy their
GOOD IN TAHOE
Fly fishermenare beginning to
sport along the Truckee
‘river as it clears up and the past
; warm spell has started the hatch of
. bugs.
The best fishing during the past
. week has been found between. Hirsh. dale and the state line. Wim. Debus
iof San Francisco caught a 24 inch .
. German brown weighing 4 pounds in.
. the Truckee river at the edge of .
town last week.
Carl Rochdoff and Bob Pamin dem.
onstrated that the fishing continues
fine in Lake Tahoe by both making
good catches during the past few
days. The Ediwards family and a party of six from Susanville returned to
the lake for the second time this
season and had very good luck.
Boca reservoir and Donner lake
are reported only fair this week.
During the past two days the weather has turned cooler with brisk
winds and the prospects are for a
continuation of the same for the
next few days. :
Sportsmen are warned that fire
permits are now required for all the
camp fires in this area which is with
in the confines of the Tahoe national forest. Permits may be obtained
locally at the office of the district
ranger,
