City. , (Contributed ) Tomorrow is the big day. The vote is on, and may_the best man win! : Of course it is.only a primary election, and what it actually decides will not be exceptionally important, . perhaps. ‘When it’s all over we won't know who the president is going to be for the next four years. We won't even know any more than we do now about the relative strength of Democratic and Republican parties in the states, since we already have that information in registration figures. Nor will the result change the inevitability of pledging Democrats of California to the president, whichever of the three delegations wins approval. Republicans, of course, can go for Landon or for the uninstructed delegation, but either choice will probably not make very much difference at the Cleveland convention, where a long wrangle is almost sure to ensue. Nevertheless there will bea “‘feel’’ of importance and excitement about the voting Tuesday. After all, this is a preliminary shot in a nation’s presidential battle, one of the most absorbing dramas in the whole range of human affairs. Few will want to miss out on this. And too, in a democracy, it is not a good idea to get into the habit of not voting. Every registered voter should cast his or her ballot tomorrow. a When Tacks Crash . (Contributed) '* The sound and fury of that ghastly head-on crash of two trucks on Golden State highway six miles south of Tulare the other day must have echoed, in the bones of every man who read of it. Traffic was blocked for five hours. It was four hours before the blazing wreckage cooled sufficiently to permit extracting three charred bodies. One of the dead left a widow and several children. No one could identify the skeletons. The heads had bees: burned off all three. Oil and grease and paper products in the heavily laden northbound truck had exploded. This truck was thought to have veered to the wrong side of the road, crashing into the other. It was only coincidence that blazing death was not poured on a whole family out for a drive, or perhaps on a school bus loaded with children. The state has been asked to speed up action to reduce the menace ‘of big vehicles on the highays. But it never has been asked so eloquently as this. ph Drorocrarrer v Grass Valley The studio that satisfies.
