RACE PREJUDICE Race prejudice is something we don’t have much of up here in Nevada Cyity, we are glad to say, but there is a lot >f it wandering around the country.in one malicious form or another. A while ago, there was a big Klu Klux Klan scare in California followed shortly by a rash of lynchings in the benighted South. Of course the horrible example of the Hitlerites in Germany is still fresh in the minds of many of us. Race prejudice thrives for only one reason: it gives puny, measly, mentally-undernourished nitwits an excuse to think they are better than some one else. Everyone of the number of individuals we’ve known who were afflicted with the blight of believing themselves superior to some one else being just plain not worth a damn. AN EXPENSIVE 'TOSS-UP “A” Street is the little street one block long that runs in front of the Gillet Nursery, a block off Nevada Street. It’s one of the prettiest spots in town, up on a knoll and grown with pine trees of great age. » Almost all the families that live in ‘that neighborhood have very small children. The fact that their homes are located on three one-block streets with practically no traffic is a considerable boon to busy mothers, who don’t have to contend cause of race, were socially and mentally inferer besides be-, in the quiet, blind streets. ent no outlet. . all the residents of “A” Street, Nursery Street, Street are opposed to the extension. They feel it will partly spoil the charm of one of the nicest parts of town. It might be used as a short cut from Willow Valley, and then the children could no longer play unwatched . Street, but on the other hand, The supposed advantage of opening “A” Strect is that it will make several lots available for city taxes. It will benefit property owners who wish to sell lots for which there is at presIt will be a difficult and expensive road to build, because the land dips down a steep hill into a swamp, and steeply up . again. There is no question but what the private interests of a . small group of people would be benefited by extending ‘A’ the interests of another group . of people might be harmed, They certainly think so. . . EXPENSIVE toss-up. From where we sit, it looks like a toss-up. And a rather Why not spend the city’s money on something a little more attractive to all of us? How about it, Mr. City Council? ——-H.
