The Texas Mine. —
ee ‘ iy
‘Last Thursday afternoon the
Texas Company made, what is
‘ow considered, an important
strike in their tunnel. °For a leng
time they have been running a
tunnel to tap some of their ledges,
and on the day above mentioned
a ledge of fine-looxing quartz was
iound which prospects better than
anything heretofore found in that
section of the Wiliow Valley dis fell, catching him under it and
trict. The size of the ledge is not
known, but! it is believed to be
three or four feet. Rock containing free gold is seen in the ledge
and itis believed. now that they
are about uncovering a pay chute.
[é this proves true some half doz‘yn other claims will be started up
immediately, as by this strike.the_
pay chate of that section will be
easily traced. There is more
quartz ia that section near the
surface than in any other part of
the district, bat the trouble has
bean that the assays were always
very low. Years ago it was
predicted hut if ever a pay chute
was discovered in the Texas, or
aljoining ground, and no one
doubts its existence, Willow Valléy would be the Fveliest mining
listrict in the county. It will
take several days to ascertain the
importance of the strike at the
Texas.

Wo. Bree has a quartz ledge on
his ranch, on ‘the lower Colfax
read, and when agricultural and
horticultural daties are ndt'pressing upon Mr. Bree, he occupies
his time in devoloping his quartz
claim, which, by the way, prospects well. On Monday last,
while Mr. Bree was at work in the
mine,» mass of rock and earth
badly bruising him. Th worsehurt received was about the head,
as his sealp was ba.ly cut in several places. His shoulder and
neck were also bruised considerably. We are pleased to state,
shgibal that the woanded man
will soon be able to attend to his
business both as a farmer and a
miner. :
Mr. Dan Trasher, who lives
about 14 miles below Grass Valley, in. the vicinity of Pleasant
Ridge, has found a quartz ledge
upon nis place which promises to
be very rich. Indeed, those -who
have seen it say that a person:
could not reasonably ask for betHterappearances. The ledge is.
from 3 to 6 inches in thickoess
and bears free gold and sulphnrets.
Mr. Thrasher has already takcn
out anumber of spevimens. We
are reliably informed that scarcely a piece of ore can be broken
trom the ledge without disclosing
bright colors of gold, and Mr.
frasher and his neighbors feel
justly proud over this prospect.

work upon the property by starting the pumps, and has now almost reacted the first level. It is
supposed that by the end of the

The San Francisco papers contain the following item: ‘‘Since

that mining companies were continuing to violate the injunction.
