More Medical Equipment Sent To Open Clinics Trinity Episcopal Church, Nevada City, wasthe grateful recipient of some of the finest Medical Equipment last year from three local doctors. The equipment of the late Dr. S, Fritz Tobias, a physician and surgeon in Grass Valley for 25 years, went-to the newly established Episcopal Church Mission at Lake Izabal in the remote mountains of Guatemala. It is now being used to serve a primitive and backward area inhabited by Indians who have nothing in _material possessions. Due to lack of proper power facilities and technical difficulty, Fr. Deamery, head of the Mission could not use some of the larger pieces of equipment, including an eye, ear, nose and throat examination chair; and other surgical supplies. Atthis time re-classifying and further inventory hadtobe made. This was accomplished by the aid of Dr. Robert Hume of Nevada City, and Miss Mary Tassons, 4 surgical nurse at Sierra Nevada. Hospital. Before the clipper was docked and the equipment was trucked into the Mission, a doctor was found to set up the clinic which is now using equipment from Dr. Tobias’ office and the eye, ear, nose and throat supplies and instruments given by Dr. Frank Roy Missner of Nevada City, -now: retired.) , Vi The present left-over equipment, along with dental equipment, given by Dr. Russell G. Merrill of Grass Valley, now re~ tired, is now crated for shipment at the Grass Valley Transfer. The eight crated boxes weighing a total of 4460 gross pounds will be sent by Pacific Motor Freight and steamshipto Formosa. Its-destination isSt. Paul'sClinic, in Taiwan. Thisrecently developed clinic was made possible with funds from “Missionary Lenten Boxes” com-~ ing from Episcopal Churches all over the U.S. The church has been able to partially equip the clinic. Even though they are just beginning, The Rev. Patric L, Hutton states ina letter to Rev. Noble, “we are being forced to enlarge our scope to meet the many needs here” and "the medical equipment and supplies will be received with deep gratefulness and much enthusiasm. * The Episcopal Church now has 2 medical clinics opened in the eee, % FREE ESTIMATES TOWN TALK ee 265-2570 FreePick-up And Delivery Missionary District of Taiwan, Formosa. To get a picture of its people, Taiwan is an island of contrasts. Sons of fishermen work in modern industrial plants, Children of Buddhist parents attend Episcopal churches and schools, Communism strives with democracy. Nationalists try to establish lives in a new land while ever hoping to return to the old China. The costs of shipping the medical equipment will be paid by the Overseas Missionary Dept. of the Episcopal Church, through the arrangements of Paul A. Tate, member of the Overseas Mission Society. Rev. Noble says the church owes thanks to the generosity of Dr. RussellG. Merrill, Dr. Frank Roy Missner and Mr. Norman Grag, commissioned to make the memorial of the late Dr. S. Fritz Tobias. "These peoples of Formosa who will receive the benefits of this medical equipment will utter their thanks for many years to come.
