SUNNY GIFTS FOR A SHOWER
As wedding time approaches
the bride gets more and more
caught up with the. glamour
and excitement of getting married. Mundane aspects of marriage become completely forgotten. But to become a fine
homemaker, the bride will need
the practical things of life,
too. Fortunately, today’s manufacturers provide attractive
as well as useful gifts for the
bride. So why not give a shower with the accent on things
she’ll need to make her new
home run smoothly?
Start with laundry ~ equipment. Ideal gifts might be a
brilliant straw hamper, a shiny
metal ironing board, a steam
and spray iron, even a length
of clothesline with an assortment of colorful clothespins.
Or pack a handy: basket with
all her needs for ironing; the
basket can be kept as a permanent storage spot. Include a
pretty pastel ironing board
cover and flower-bedecked dust
cover, a press mit or “ham”,
heavy cheese cloth to be used
as a press cloth, an exotic
sprinkling can in brass or
glass. And don’t forget spray
starch. This, too, comes in attractive .containers such as
Niagara’s green and yellow
aerosol can. As a last touch,
pop in a long-handled brush or
sponge.

The traditional summer va* cation of the American family is
highly recommended by your
doctor. The family needs to get
away from customary home and
office chores, forget day-to-day
worries for a short time and
generally get rejuvenated and
ready to face another year.
Whether your vacation will
be a short trip to a nearby lake,
camping out in a national park,
a plane trip abroad, or what
have you, there are a few things
to keep in mind that will help
avoid having the holiday spoiled
by illness.

Depending on where you’re
going, you may need some vaccination shots. Tetanus, certainly, for anyone who expects
to include some out-of-doors
activities. Typhoid, if your journey includes areas where the
water supply is uncertain. Smallpox, if you’re planning to leave
the United States to visit a
foreign land. Ask your doctor
about these, and possibly other,
immunizations.
The American Medical Association suggests that you remind yourself to use common
sense about your vacation dict.
Many a family trip has been
spoiled by too many roadside
hamburgers and soft drinks. A
sound rule while driving crosscountry is to eat lightly. Be
cautious about heavy, rich
meals, particularly if you’re not
accustomed to such fare at
home.
Know what sort of climate
you will encounter at your vacation spot and dress accordingly.
It can get cold in the mountains
at night, even in midsummer.
Good walking shoes are important to the travel wardrobe.
If you wear glasses, .take
along an extra pair. Or at least
a copy of your prescription. If
you’re taking a regular medication, make certain of your supply before you leave.
And, finally, don’t overdo
it. Almost no one other than a
trained athlete is ready for 36
holes of golf or five sets of
tennis under a broiling sun.
Schedule your vacation to allow
daily rest periods. Do most of
the driving in the morning hours
and stop for the evening in early
or mid-afternoon,
Your vacation should be a
holiday for rest and relaxation.
It should not be a grind that
necessitates another vacation to
rest up.from the vacation.
