At the UNITED NATIONS the United States and Russia
submitted a joint declaration urging nations to increase
efforts to achieve a general and complete disarmament
“under effective international control” and to plan for
the economic and social adjustments that would follow
w orld disarmament. The declaration noted that $120
billion is being spent yearly for military purposes around
the world, and disarmament would free more funds to
help the developing countries.

Soviet Union have agreed to cooperate on the peaceful
use of space for research in three major areas was made:
