Much of. Nevada County had a
white Christmas in 1965, and
while the cold, white stuff made
children happy, it made a work
day out of a holiday for about 20
men involved in county road
maintenance,
Road department workers were
out in force beginning at 3 a.m,
Christmas Eve in Truckee, and
they worked all Christmas day to
clear away about three feet of
snow from Truckee area roads,
according to public works director
Jack Meade.
Fourteen men spent Christmas
day clearing roads in the western
part of the county, Meade said,
In the town of Washington, two
feet of snow fell,
County road superintendent
Glenn Rowe, who was supposed
to have started on vacation,
appeared for duty at the shop
Christmas morming anyway.
County road crews are used to
working unusual hours to serve
the public--and that apparently
includes Christmas day,
