SDR ee emgea The Placer-Nevada Counties CowBelles quarterly business ‘session was held recently in conjunc = tion with the all day meeting of the Cattlemen's Association. The effort to bring all cattle ' interests together in an attempt to effectively create new and larger markets for-beef in California and across the nation was the good news from the Cattlemen's Association Convention held in Santa Rosa December 4. The Placer-Nevada Counties CowBelles passed a resolution asking that all retail beef be labeled as to origin. “This is the only way the consumer can be sure of purchasing American Cowbells To Promote Sale Of Beef “ grown beef", according to Dixie Meredith, president of the group. To further the educational program of the beef industry, the local chapter of the CowBelles will donate a sizeable beef roast to the Home Economics Department of the high schools in the area. The students will be instructed in the purchase and prep~ aration of beef. A $100 cash prize was awarded the Placer-Nevada Counties CowBelles for having the greatest number of new members in a newly formed chapter. The California Cattlemen's Health Insurance Company made the award during the convention in Santa Rosa. * + levada City Escapees Face Felony Charges Three prisoners dug their way out of the Nevada County Jail Christmas, but were back in the maximum seéurity “blue room" 12 hours later. The trio, James Wheelihan, 33, and Fredrick Carl Kaufman, 26 of Sacramento, and James R. Wadsworthth, 22, of Reno, dug through the second story wall of the jail and dropped to the roof below. They traveled to Sacramento where they were quickly picked up again and returned to Nevada County.
