Assemblyman Gene Chappie (R-E] Dorado County). Called the Mother Lode Historical Preservation Commission Act of 1969, the bill would establish a seven-man commission to ‘initiate, stimulate, coordinate and implement" efforts by local government and private entities. ‘The commission's jurisdiction would include a range of specified counties from Butte on the north to Madera on the south, and Alpine, Mono, Yuba and Sacramento. Adjacent counties with related gold historical areas would also be under the commission's jurisdiction. "I am concerned", said Chappie, "that unless we take immediate steps, the great heritage of the Mother Lode will be either lost or destroyed forever. The discovery of gold at Coloma in 1848, was the direct cause of ties making up the Mother Lode. The commission would be authorized to -accept donations from. any private or public source to implement its purposes and would be deposited in a Mother Lode Historical Preservation Fund. The bill asks for a $25,000 appropriation, principally to hire an executive secretary with an assistant to implement the commission's directives. My Air Force Woman given five months jail suspended Margaret Louise Horney, 20, Grass Valley, was given a five months suspended jail sentence and two years probation Monday in Superior Court after an earlier plea of guilty to the possession of marijuana, Judge Richard Schoenig of Yuba. County sentenced Mrs. Horney and talked seriously with her. She said she was sorry she had broken the law, but did not believe the use of marijuana was morally wrong. Flu cases down, but hospitals remain crowded The number of influenza patients has decreased at Sierra JS. SAVINGS BONDS/— Nevada Memorial and Miners hospitals, administrator Al Casey says, but occupancy remains at about 100 per cent. Occupancy at SNMH through January, Casey said, was 99.5 per cent, and Miners was 98.3 per cent full, He said he thought Nevada General Hospital was close to 100 per cent also. Starting into the second month of the year, SNMH had 47 patients for a 42+bed hospital and Miners 24 patients for its 21 beds. The extra beds were in hallways, said Casey.
