The Rough and Ready Chamber of Commerce held its second meeting of the year Thursday
f night and it was as enthusiastic as the first, All but one of the Board members were present
4 and Mr. and Mrs, Willis Perry, Mrs. Don Long, nh nc nora young.Allen Mader were visitors,

“Allen Mader provides transportation to our busy little Chamber vice president Mrs. Mary O'Neal.
These things may not entirely account for the busy and successful meeting but they surely helped.
The 1970 budget was accepted and will be presented to the County Chamber in a bid for financial
aid, The budget anticipates completing restoration of the Blacksmith Shop, a successful Secession
Day celebration, and new signs for the town and all its streets. The enthusiastic Blacksmith Shop
committee has already overcome their first obstacles, They have almost enough volunteer helpers,
a proper restructuring plan is being prepared for the inspector, and they have a pledge of suitable
‘old timbers, ‘They will get to work just as soon as the weather and the inspector.allow. Secession
Day will have as its chairman, William Thomas and Don Long will act as co-chairman: Invitations

Lecturer Ola Hale presented a musical program for the enjoyment of the guests, Grange
musician Elise Rose directed a get acquainted musical number, played some piano numbers and
led the group in community singing of several old time songs. Then State Musician Wm, Campbell
took over in his inimitable fashion and really gave the crowd a review of some good old timers.
There were several. impromptu speeches including an explanation by Morton Rose of the new
property action to be considered by our Board of Supervisors, . it gee
~~ “Guests were present from three neighboring granges. Mrs. Emma Waite, Director of District
Six for Ladies Activities, the Master and his wife, and two other guests came from Orangevale.
Placer-Nugget-Pomona Grange Master, Mrs, Marie Rasmussen and guests came from Loomis
Grange. All agreed that the theme for the new year is one worth serving. The 1970 theme is Harvest
of Fullfillment.

“Young William Bursill who has been preparing for some years for work with young people
finally has the opportunity to get going on his ambitions, Bill has his degree in recreation and is
going on with work at night school at Berkeley to get his special teaching credential. His new
job is in Berkeley. He will be coun: liz and coaching wrestling and swimming at the State School

. The Four Wheelers held a Pancake Breakfast at the Rough and Ready Grange Hall last Sunday.
About 75 Jeeps filled with their families gathered early for breakfast, Later they went up to Old
Marsh Mill. The Four Wheelers constitution advocates better family life and conservation of our
beautiful county. Rough and Ready agrees there were a lot of happy families at the breakfast.
