Turner Gets Certificate Of Merit
NEVADA CITY..Harold
B. Turner, Tahoe National
Forest staff employee in
charge of timber sales and
land rehabilitation was singularly honered for his past
work in these forest activities, according toH, E,
Branagh, forest supervisor.
Turner receiveda Certificate of Merit, which carried with it a cash award.
In transmitting the Certificate of Merit, Regional
Forester Charles A. Connaughton had this to say to
",.in recognition of the
outstanding. job you have
done on timber sales and
timber culture work on the
Tahoe National Forest, I
especially want to commend
you for the enthusiasm and
competence you displayed in
handling the extraordinary
workloads resulting from the
1959 and 1960 fires”.

regional forester's letter,

was made by Supervisor
Branagh at aninformal
gathering of the office
personnel,
Branagh expressed his
‘thanks and appreciation to
Turner and to all members
of the forest who so willingly gave of .their efforts and
time to sell and harvest the
timber destroyed by the big
‘59 -and-60 fires and in the
progress to date in cleaning
up the burned over area and
rehabilitation of the lands
to minimize soil erosion and
get the land back intotimber
production,
In accepting the award,
Turner said that he felt that
his effort was no more than
those of every other forest
employee onthis emergency
anda most important job
that needed tobe done without loss of time.
The award was made under
the federai government
employee award program
which was established several years 41go to recognize
outstanding work performby federal employees.

This exhibit is given every
year by the Art Center and
is called "Journeys into the
Past", and each group that
works with antiques, such as
dolls, buttons , bottles, ect,
arrange displays for the public.
Mrs, Lenore Coughlin sent
her little metal table and
chairs that were formerly
used in an old ice cream
parlor in Nevada City.
A nominating committee
composed of Mrs. Caroline
Cassell, Mrs. Florence
Elledge and Mrs. Vedah Affleck were chosen to line up
new Officers for the coming
term.

Mrs, Myrtle McDonald ,

state convention will be
held in Beverly Hills,

events this year will be the
National Association of Legal Secretaries Convention
to be held in San Francisco
July 25-29, with delegats
from the various states, as
well as England, Japan and
Puerto Rico, Convention
headquarters will-be at the
Sheraton-Palace Hotel.
General assemblies and
workshops are scheduled
during the days. Social plans
include a tour of San Francisco; areception inthe San
Francisco bar Association
