Wednesday, Jan. 17, 1968 New NID Chairman Assumes New Duties The new Nevada Irrigation District Chairman, Alex Ferreira, explained his views to his fellow: board members, and others upon assuming his duties of office. Ferreira promised to work with his colleagues and other public agencies for the best interests of those served by the ND. Ferreira took the place of Melvin Brown, Penn Valley dairyman who had served as chairman for about three years, Brown was elected vice-chairman, The new chairman said he is seeking the cooperation of everyone as he starts a twoyear term, Explaining his views Ferreira said: "I want to thank you for your . confidence in electing me as president of the board. I would like to express a principle and responsibility, and that is to view the NID as one district, ‘ formed to serve all its people as impartially as possible without regard to division boundaries or class of customers. The district has many problems which we must face. Of course, there will be differences of opinion, but our goal should be to provide our people with a better quality of water ana service. I will do my best to work with you and other public agencies so that the best interests of the district and both Nevada
and Placer counties may be served. I ask your support to accomplish this common goal. Ferreira also asked that the board meet elsewhere than Grass Valley several times a year. He said this would. give property owners in other parts of the district a chance to appear before: the board without being compelled to come to Grass Valley. Attorney Dave Minasian will study the legality of the proposal, which the board approved, District Manager Edwin Koster said he saw no reason why meetings cannot be held in other communities, Brown, leaving the top NID post, said he appreciated the cooperation of the board "most of the time" during his tenure as chairman. He also appreciated the attitude’ of "most of the public most of the time," Brown said that the press has been cooperative "not all of the time but most of the time." Brown called for support for the-new.chairman, The board, in its reorganization, renamed Dorothy B.
