Production.
Michael Gisney, ‘Long time.
Producer and Director of, Theatricals and plays, is getting work
under way to produce the Nationally famed work. "OUR TOWN”
under the Atispices of the Liberal
Arts Commission. Mr, Cisney
has issued a call for talent to
appear in this play, The "Casting
Call" is set for Wednesday &
Thursday Jan. 18 and 19th., in
the Council room, City Hall,
Nevada City ‘at 8P.M, on each
evening ‘named above. "OUR
TOWN" is a Pulitzer Prize
Winner produced on. the Broadway stage fot years and made
further famous by a motion picture a few years ago. The play
will use 17 men and 5. women in
speaking parts, In addition there
will be need for people to appear
in bits and as extras,
Mr. Cisney plans to present this
production at anearly date, The
exact location of the play has not
been definitely determined however it ishoped that arrangements
can be.made to use the Old
Nevada Theatre. on Broad Street
fora gala show.

Truckee arearesidents, It Fad

of the shock was registered at
3,75 on the’ Richter scale, no
damage was reported,

in N-C Draws ManyGuests
The’ twelve ghabe from District
III, attending the Area Council
meeting of the Southwestern
Region of Soroptimists: Federation
of the Americas, Inc., were not
only met and welcomed into the
old scenic town of Nevada City
by their hosts; the Nevada City
Soroptimist Club, but by a very
special day of beautiful sunshine,
when they gathered last Saturday
at the. National Hotel,
The meeting was opened at 9:30
* with an informal session of getting acquainted over coffee
served by the hosts which lasted
throughout the morning,Approximately 114 guests were
then seated at tables beautifully
decorated with the gold rush
theme by Jane Sommers of the
Nevada City Soroptimists,.
‘During the council luncheon,
-Regional Governor, Mary Gianotti, of El Cerrito, and Matie
Barker, District Director of District No. 3, of Sparks, Nevada,
wefe introduced,.*° They each in
turn gave most interesting and
informative talks,
Also: introduced was. Blanche
Edgar of the Sacramento Soroptimist Club, who has chartered
over 100 Soroptimist clubs. She
became very much interested in
the history of the old Nevada City
theatre, and it's restoration now
being planned by the Liberal Arts
The annual installation Dinner
for 1967 Officers of the Nevada
City Chamber ‘of Commerce. was
held in the Specially decorated
Victorian Room of the famous
National Hotel, Saturday evening January 14th. Installed as
President was Willard Rose, Manager of the Bank of America in
Nevada City, Bob Wood, District Director ot the California
State organizatiom was the ins°
talling officer. Installed in the
post of Vice President was Dr.
Roy Stauffer, Nevada City DenChamber Officials chat with Assemblyman Gene Chappie at the
post of Secretary~ Treasurer. Mr.
Wood ongratulatéd the Chamber on the progress -being made
in promoting the business Climate of this area.
New members of the Board of
Directors installed were; Colonel John L. Clark, Editor of the
Nevada County Nugget, Mrs B.
Lane, owner of a ‘retail shop in
Nevada City and Joseph E, Day,
ee Citizen and local RealBabe Childers, served as Master
organization's Annual Dinner and Installation; From Left to Right
they are; Willard Rose, President Nevada City Chamber, Ralph
Friedrich, out going President, Nevada City Chamber, John A.
Gallegos, Executive Manager ‘of the Nevada County Chamber of
Commerce and Assemblyman Chappie.

for $100. to be used toward the
theatre fund,
Mary Moser was the general
chairman for the council meeting.. She was assisted by the
following chairmen: Marie
Novak, registration; Jane Summers, decoration; Beth White,
publicity, Alice McGee, totebags; and Vivian Berggren and
Teresa Cassetari, programs. The
Grass Valley Soroptimists were
in charge of the entertainment
during the luncheon,

present were Gene Chappie who
drove up from Sacramento for
the meeting, with Mrs, Chappie
Roy Miller, President of the newly formed Nevada County Chamber of Commerce and severa1 members of his Board attended
the meeting. John A, Gallegos,
Executive-Manager of the County Chamber was the principal
speaker and pledged the support
of his »rganization to the development of Nevada County. He
‘outlined the aims of the new organization and stated that they
would coordinate, cooperate,
to high degree but not dupiicate
the work of the chambers,
Ralph Friedrich, outgoing President was presented with a gavel and base for his fine work in
1966, by Dick Knee an outgoing
Director. Friedrich continues as
a Director for 1967. He pledged
his full support to the work to be
done. In his speech of acceptanee, Rose outlined a program ot
building our community. His
special aim is to bring about be‘tter parking
ers trading in the City. He ple. dged his best efforts to get this
problem solved as soon as possi=
ble.
Special efforts will be made to
increase membership in the chamber and full cooperation with
all four units of Chambers of Commerce in the County. The problem of dues to avoid duplication will be worked out by the
various Boards of Directors, with
the assistance of the County Chamber. At present, dues are being billed to. the end of the fiscal year, June 30th., 1967.
Highway Patrol Seeks
Job Applicants
Lt. Axton, Commander of the
Grass Valley Area office of the
California Highway Patrol, said
this week that a civil service
examination for the position of
Traffic Officer on the California
Highway Patrol will be given
throughout the State on February
18,
"Although applications to take
these examinations are being
accepted on a continual basis, "
said Lt., Axton, "those applicants
wishing to take the February examination must turn in their applications by January 20, "
Lt. Axton said applications can
be obtained at the local office of
the California Highway Patrol or
at the nearest office of the California Department of Employment.
Applicants for the examination
must be between 21 and 31 years
ofage, have at least the equivalent of a hi school education,
be between five feet nine inches
and six feet six inches in height,
and be in good physical condition.
Lt. Axton said resident requirements had been altered to allow
application by men who haven't
established residence in Californig. ‘This change is designed to
attract men who are leaving the
military here or are studying law
enforcement at one of the colleges in the State.
