Annual Book Sale
. The third annual book sale sponsored by-the Friends of the Library
will be held from 10 to 5, February 24 and 25.
The sale will include old and
‘rare books, as well as paperbacks,
There will be a silent auction of
collector's items, a very popular
feature at the previous sales.
More books are needed and any"Revealing Night”.

when they met last Thrusday

Plans were made for "revealing
night" to be held at 8p.m.,
January 26, inthe Masonic Temple, South Auburn Street, Grass
Valley. .The purpose of revealing
night is for each member of Job's
Daughters to reveal the name of
her secret father for the past year.
The secret fathers will be present
ashonored guests of the evening.
Refreshments will be served,
oné wishing to donate books may
bring them to the libraries. or call
265-4293 for pickup.

Civic Club Lunch
The Nevada City Women's Civic
Club will hold their first luncheon
meeting of 1967 in the Victorian
Room of the National Hotel at 12
noon, Wednesday, January 18.
The meeting will be conducted
by Winifred Creegan, president.
Aprogram of special intetest has
been. arranged by Irene Welsh,
program chairman. Mr. Willard
Rose, manager of the Nevada
Gity Branch of the Bank of America, and new president of the
Nevada City Chamber of Commerce, will be the speaker and
will talk on the subject of the
tight. money situation which is
currently in effect all over the
country.
Members may bring guests and
anyone who would like to hear
Mr. Rose is welcome to attend
the luncheon,
Saturday Evening January 14th., was the closing period for the
annual fun meeting and convention of the " E Clampus Vitas”

A Song is now being composed
especially for Grass Valley. It
will be sung by the "Sing outThere is a-Song
on the Way
66" folk singers. The group is
to appear in Grass Valley, January 27, at $.P.M. at the Veterans Memorial Building. All
proceeds will go to the March
of Dimes campaign Fund.
Special tribute is paid to the
Grass Valley Jaycees.

hours of training, he learned
about weapons and combat
techniques from combat veter

him how to conduct combat
patrols, detect and remove
mines and body traps and use
the standard Marine Corps
infantry weapons, .
He will now receive at least
four weeks of specialist training before being assigned to his
first permanent unit, Marines
going to combat units will get
detailed training in the particular combat skill they are
designated for, Those who are
going into technical fields will
receive their advanced training at one of a variety of
technical schools throughout
the country,

Jan. 13 at Ft. Gordon, Ga. His
last week of training was spent
in guerrilla warfare exercises.
During his guerrilla training,
he lived under simulated Vietnam conditions for five days,
fighting off night attackes and
conducting raids on "enemy"
villages, He was taught methods of removing booby traps,
setting ambushes, and avoiding
enemy abushes,
Other specialized training included small unit tactics, map
reading, land mine warfare
communications, and firing the
M-14 rifle, M-60 machinegun
and 3, 5-inch rocket launcher,
