I testified on three principal jects. ue a a bank protection and stabilization project on the Secyamento River between Chico Landing and Red Bluff, authorized by Congress some time ago. Unfortunately, the Bureau of Budget did not approve funds for advance engineering and i which is a prerequisite to construction to alleviate the serious erosion problem. The committee was urged to include $50,000 for this purpose so that the Corps of Engineers can get under way. They estimate it will require at least two years to complete design studies. Estimated construction. cost of the project is $1,750,000. It was also recommended to the committee that $2 million be appropriated for two units of the Sacramento River. Major and Minor Tributaries’ projects, also an important part of the overall flood protection program ef the Upper Sacramento River Basin. Of this sum, in the Chico area, ~~ “$1,100,000 would start and complete the Cherokee Canal unit. _The remaining $900,000 is recom* mended for starting construction y on the Big Chico Creek and adjacent streams unit. Production of all species for the year totaled 317,158,000 feet, of which 256,032,000 feet were redwood.
